Decent salad cream (not Heinz, it's crap now).

Any suggestions please? I rarely buy it any more, the last couple have been Heinz but it tastes worse each time, like rancid oil with acid dropped in.

Is there anything that tastes like Heinz original USED to taste?

This is worth a try. I think their mayo tastes line salad cream.

Thank you for that, not a fan of rapeseed oil but will take a good look at the salad cream anyway as I don't like mayo.

Have you tried the Heinz one with 30% less fat, I don't know why but this tastes more like it used to taste, to me anyway! I don't like mayo at all though has to be salad cream😋

I haven't tried it, maybe it would be better. I have already given up Heinz ketchup and soups, no longer buy Heinz beans as Lidl were better, so giving up their salad cream will be easy. Heinz has gone down the pan.🙁

I'm hoping someone from Stokes sauces reads this thread and makes a salad cream!
I did just double check but no salad cream sadly! But their other sauces are lovely - albeit a bit of a treat price wise!

Crucials was ok. You know the make that do things like yogurt mint sauce etc. Wasn't keen on lidl. Aldi okish.

Seafood sauce is great on a salad

Thank you but no thanks, ketchup is better on chips, so is mayo, but not together.

I was coming on the day the M&S one, and I see it is pretty popular.

It's our go to one now, having previously been a Heinz family.

I thought mayonnaise kept in the fridge lasted for a few weeks??

Hellman's say on the back of their mayo that once opened it will last 2 weeks if kept at ambient / room temperature, but if you refridgerate after opening it will last up to 3 months.

ianshe · 01/02/2024 11:42

Have you tried kewpie mayo? I havent but I heard it tastes like SC

I keep Hellmans mayo, opened and refrigerated, for about 6-8 weeks. Not dead yet.

I used some about 6 weeks old once, resulted in an interesting few days staying near the facilities for someone... it's difficult to tell if it's not quite right. I don't buy it any more.

I've never been tempted, but curious, though. I'm put off by the price, plus, I'm used to English mayo. I'm not sure if the Japanese version is sweeter than the English kind.

I buy Aldi's own brand, the lower fat one. It's only like 99p (bought some today actually) and it tastes nice.

Salad Cream/Mayo annoys me, as I can never get through it as quick as you need to before it needs throwing out.. but at 99p a bottle, I'm happy to pay it and then toss it out when needed.

Throw it out? Honestly I just keep it until it is finished, salad cream is definitely more than a year old and fine. Now I'm worried it is old style and I won't like the new.

Agree about Warburton's tiger bread. It used to be a treat. It is now inedible.

Toge

I don't even religiously keep it in the fridge. Definitely keep it for more than 8 weeks.
