Could I please have ideas for a bday present for DD's best friend? Budget is £30-40. I don't have sons and find girls so easy to buy for! I sent DD some ideas from Amazon and she laughed at me and gave me a hug, so I'm obviously clueless 😂

Would asking your friend be out of the question? Who can be bothered trying to double guess what someone else's child is into, it varies greatly...
Most successful gifts for DS 14 in the past year:
Quality artist materials, graphic novels (The Walking Dead), sweatshirt with his favorite TV show as a print, video games, model making stuff.

Once they started at high school we started giving vouchers and a bar of chocolate.

Cold hard cash would probably be most appreciated.

As it’s DD’s friend, can’t she link to something he likes eg a voucher for his console, aftershave or whatever. It’s hard to make suggestions without knowing his hobbies and interests.

Thanks all. She says he likes video games. Might go for a voucher for that.

Did she mention which games he likes exactly? You can get him a poster calendar with it or other related items. Though a voucher or a Steam gift card would be great, too, and it's way less trouble!

Spend £3-5 in some chocolates/sweets and give him the rest in cash / a store voucher

if you want a gift, bluetooth speakers with lights always seem to go down well at that age.
