Cringing at myself work meeting

Had an impromptu teams meeting today with my with my manager and his colleague (both v senior). I was giving some updates on a project to the colleague, he mentioned a regular meeting that happens relating to the project and reeled off who goes to the meeting.

I am trying to assert more confidence in myself and be proactive, so I then said in my most confident and professional voice 'can you include me in that meeting, who do I need to ask to be added to it?' As I said it I realised everyone he mentioned was v v senior so absolutely not a chance that I would need to be there (I am low level).

Cue both my manager and senior colleague falling over themselves trying to politely say 'you are very junior and absolutely do not need to be at this meeting full of important senior people'. Lots of 'oh well actually it maybe doesn't make sense but you know it was a good idea, maybe I can ask you for updates and I can take them' etc

It's really small in the grand scheme of things but I'm just cringing at myself that 1) that was the moment/way I tried to be a bit more confident! and 2) having to just sit there gormlessly while they obviously felt awkward saying no and kept going round in circles to explain it 😂I wish they just said NO! moving on.

Anyone else done anything embarrassing today?

You have my sympathy, I would be cringing inside out - BUT he will have taken away from that, that you are keen, confident and want to give your all to the job. So maybe misguided but not a bad thing.

It's not embarrassing that OP. Just shrug it off and don't give it a second thought.

I agree with @BugofLove Don't be too embarrassed about it.

I think it’s their response that made it feel more awkward, I’ll have forgotten all about it tomorrow but just have that lingering cringe feeling this evening 😂
