What is this dog breed?!

We’re thinking about getting a 2nd dog and doing research on breeds and how they’ll fit with our current dog etc.

My kids do not stop sending me this picture - someone said malamute but I googled puppy pics and I don’t think it looks quite right.

Any ideas so I can either list as an option or shut down this conversation? 😂

When I type Malamute puppies I get this…

Pomeranian?

DontBeAPrickDarren · 30/01/2024 20:18

Chow chow, or some kind of cross?

Chow more than pomeranian - the pommy's I know are tiny yappy fluffballs.

Plikujyhtg · 30/01/2024 20:20

It's a chow chow

VoleChomper · 30/01/2024 20:20

chow chow pups?

Shadowsindarkplaces · 30/01/2024 20:20

Could be, another similar looking at that stage could be akita..

A Pomsky. Pomeranian x Husky

Namedand · 30/01/2024 20:21

Looks like a chow chow I think

Chow chow, they normally have blue tongues

Jessforless · 30/01/2024 20:24

Oh wow now I have to start researching an Akita - how gorgeous are those puppies?!

Thanks all, I’m thinking this dog is probably too small then. Ours is a 20kilo lover of non stop playing and bouncing around, don’t think a small dog would have the stamina.

Above post in answer to it being a Pomeranian..

A chow chow doesn’t love other dogs though apparently so back to the drawing board.

Sadly I see Akita’s too don’t get along with other dogs that well.

Akitas are NOT family dogs. They are notoriously poor at tolerating kids and have a very powerful bite.

Whilst they are perfectly legal in the UK, they are currently banned / in a restricted list in Ireland, Spain and further afield like Singapore.

I'm sure thousands of people will tell you they have an Akita that's amazing with their kids and blah blah, but even Akita rescues will openly tell you they are not good with children.

Pablova · 30/01/2024 20:31

Looks like a chow chow, cute puppies but not a family dog.

Pablova · 30/01/2024 20:33

And second PPs Akitas are not a suitable family dog either. Cute and fluffy puppy is not a marker of a suitable family dog.

Horrace · 30/01/2024 20:37

Ewok cross

Namedand · 30/01/2024 20:40

Yes the Akita pups are super cute. They do grow into very large strong dogs. You say your current dog is 20kg. A fully grown Akita could be double that weight. They are powerful dogs and I’m puzzled why you’d want to bring one into your home and family when you already have a dog. I think you’ll need to do more research and don’t be influenced by your kids cooing over pictures of cute puppies 🐶

Skyellaskerry · 30/01/2024 20:45

All puppies are cute IMO!

What breed is your current dog?

Where did I say that?

I actually said that it was cute and I would research it, and then two seconds later ruled it out.

Im not influenced by my kids showing me pictures of cute dogs, but I didn’t know what it was and thought it was worth a google.

If you want something medium sized, just as cute and fluffy, friendly and playful, then how about a samoyed?

Need careful initial training, so probably not for a novice owner, and plenty of exercise. They shed like crazy, and most of them bark really quite distinctively. Had a friend with one, gorgeous dog (not much of a barker, but I think they were lucky!)

Bunnyhopskip · 30/01/2024 20:49

Pomski I think

Nttttt · 30/01/2024 20:52

Looks like a chow chow or a chow cross. They’re super aloof (although of course personalities differ!) They do look adorable though!

Soubriquet · 30/01/2024 20:53

Looks like a pomsky to me

mondaytosunday · 30/01/2024 21:00

Chow chows are more jowly than that pic, possibly a cross of some kind. I had a chow chow and they are not the best with kids and can be a bit aloof.
