Streaming Musicals or Live Events

We have an elderly relative who has a big birthday on the horizon. They'd love to see a Musical or Live Event but given their frailties and where they live, this will be impossible.

However they do have a very new TV set up and we are thinking of creating as close to an event as we can in their own home. We will do arrival canapés and champagne and then plan to sit and watch together in the comfort of their own home.

Can anyone recommend streaming services we can look at for special events or quality musicals? The budget is relatively good for this because if we were actually attending a theatre we would pay hundreds for the 8 of us to go.

Kinky Boots the West End show starring Matt Henry, filmed live, is on this Sunday in Odeon cinemas.

Amazon Prime has Billy Elliot the musical Live (make sure you get the right one) and Hairspray Live! which are both filmed versions of live shows.

Disney + has Hamilton (the original Broadway version of the musical)

What a lovely idea! Amazon Prime & Disney and cinema screenings as PP mentioned above. The National Theatre, Royal Opera House and Metropolitan Opera all have home streaming options. If going to the cinema is an option and you have an Everyman near you they also show the live screenings.

The recent-ish (2021) version of Anything Goes at the Barbican is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

A bit of further investigation has revealed that Prime also has Shrek, Heathers, Newsies and Prince of Egypt in their theatrical versions.

Oh I forgot Sky! They have Funny Girl and Kipps: The New Half a Sixpence

Thank you so much for all of these ideas. A visit to a local cinema would be difficult and I think, taking her health, comfort and facility requirements into consideration, the home option will be the best if its do able....which it sounds like it will be.

We will explore these options and come up with a list available on her birthday and then do a bit of poking around to find out which she might like the best!

The grandchildren have said they will sort the champagne and canapé ideas and theyll cook them in her kitchen (hopefully its not just crisps and peanuts!) . That leaves the adults to sort the tech! Probably completely the wrong way around! 😆

I'd second Anything goes - do a sort with f themed meal, it's also fun.
