If you won the lottery, say.. 10 million. Would you keep working?

A colleague said to me today that the true test of if you like your job is the lottery test, and apparently, this proves most people hate their jobs.

If you won a life changing amount, would you keep your job… if you truly hate your job, you wouldn’t even work your notice.

I think I would go crazy with nothing to do but would like to open a luxury dog hotel 😂 but in terms of my actual job, I would absolutely leave but really like the people so like to think I would work my notice.

How about you?

Nope. I’d quit on the spot. I’d would then volunteer until the summer before having summer off with DS before he goes to the Army later in the year. Then I’d consider options on a part time job and more volunteering once he is away. I’d also look to travel and do lots of city breaks.

https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/144201902 well I guess if I bought this I would have to keep working. Pp is right £10 million would not go far if you want a ‘modest’ home in London.

Check out this 7 bedroom detached house for sale on Rightmove

7 bedroom detached house for sale in Cathcart Road, London, SW10 for £8,000,000. Marketed by Savills, Chelsea

Edited

I can think of many, many places I'd rather live than London and all of which have cleaner air, better quality of life, affordable and much less crime, so that's not an issue for me.

Hounslow has homes for 1.5 million. I wd move there in a heartbeat. Have worked there and lived near it.

@LikeagoddamnVampire true and valid view point - although I love that house, just wrong location. But I can now see why someone would think £10m isn’t enough. That’s assuming you bought a property outright as your priority after winning. After all, some people do like London.

piscis · 31/01/2024 17:26

That example is a bit extreme, most houses in London don't cost £8million. Most people don't need a 7 room detached house either.

As as ithers have said, not everyone want to live in London.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 31/01/2024 17:32

@piscis it’s just an example - (it is gorgeous though) as to why someone may feel £10 million isn’t enough. It isn’t even a huge house. Popped up whilst doing a right move mooch/ dream.

£10 mill would easily be enough for me to live on. I could get a house I’d love where I live for 1mil. Then I’m assuming the interest on 9mil would be decent enough to live on.

I would quit the job I do now, but continue working in a voluntary capacity for the organisation (less hours and helping at events rather than working weekly).

I’ve got come study and hobbies I’d like to do if I had the time.
