What's with all the hate for Holly Willoughby?

Hi,

I just think it's getting ridiculous now.

I follow her on Instagram and can't believe the amount of nasty comments she gets - Looks old, looks grumpy, looks inappropriate for family TV, with of course the occasional, sarky 'thought you were putting your family first' thrown in there

How dare she post photos of herself looking glamorous, not glamorous enough, too happy, too sad, too smug, look her age, not look her age. And how dare she get on with her life?

I know she's not the only one who recieves this kind of vile misogyny, but I'm genuinely quite surprised how much Holly seems to be targeted now.

To be fair, she is a nasty piece of work, trust me when I say that.

Mrsjayy · 29/01/2024 16:48

DancingOnMoonbeams · 29/01/2024 16:31

Holly can't win whatever she says/does.

this. Although I didn't like the smug pallyness she had with Philip schofield they would act like e everything was an in joke. I don't follow her.so I don't see what she does online but she is damned if she does and damned if she doesn't.

Moonshine5 · 29/01/2024 17:20

I genuinely think I wouldn't like her if she was a man, to me she comes across as insincere. Tbh I didn't like Philip Schofield either.
Also I didn't like that they didn't adjust they messed up with queue-gate. I sincerely think she's only stayed on TV so long because of her connections. Also most people would look good with that amount of money to spend on themselves.

New2024 · 29/01/2024 17:23

I’ve never warmed to her presenting style. I can’t say Phil was my cup of tea either. However, it’s sad if people feel the need to make major criticisms of her.

fonfusedm · 29/01/2024 17:25

The thing is people who avidly watch TH would see Phil & Holly as relatable & someone they could have a drink with etc, that’s the appeal & what they play up too. With the whole scandal & queuing thing it’s a reflection of oh they aren’t actually like me.

Everywomen · 29/01/2024 17:54

What annoys me is that she left this morning, apparently due to safety concerns for her and her family after that stalking thing, but now she’s forgotten that and is back on tv. My view is that she used the stalking as a convenient excuse to get off this morning where she had a lot of heat re Phil, and to let it die down. So I think she’s disingenuous although I’m not trying minimising her fear re the stalking which must have been awful. I just think if that was the reason she left tv , why is she back now

CatamaranViper · 29/01/2024 18:01

I started to dislike her when she and PS appeared drunk/hungover one morning and wearing last night's clothes following an award show.

It's just rubbing privilege in our faces and showing a total lack of respect for their jobs and their audience. If I turned up to work like that I would be sacked as would most people. They both gave off an air of "we're untouchable" which I really disliked.

Totally agree with you

Riapia · 29/01/2024 18:18

Simple, jealousy.

sep135 · 29/01/2024 18:21

Mainly because she's rumoured to be vile to those that work with her. Otherwise I find her giggly simpering act really irritating and were it not for her producer husband, not sure she'd have got nearly as far as she has.

No jealousy; it's not a life I'd want or aspire to.

Tontostitis · 29/01/2024 18:28

I can't past her simpering at Schofield patting him and telling him how brave he was, all the while knowing he'd destroyed that young man, a young man she knew well. I hope she slinks off our screens and stays off. Not that I condone on line abuse obviously but I think she's had her time and should bugger off.

MRSMTO · 29/01/2024 18:31

I really don't like the woman, her presenting skills or any of the programs she presents. However, the day I go out of my way to tell a celebrity about my distaste for them is the day I get rid of social media. I can't imagine wanting to interact nicely with one let alone criticise one.

Moonshine5 · 29/01/2024 18:38

Agree

DocOck · 29/01/2024 19:35

It's that she covered up for Philip Scofield.

Sartre · 29/01/2024 19:40

I have a friend who worked with Fearne Cotton for years so met Holly lots and said she was a genuinely horrible person. Just snooty and rude 24/7. Really put me off her.

Mrsjayy · 29/01/2024 20:05

even if somebody is snooty and unpleasant in Rl why do people follow her on SM just to Insult her she's a "brand" her instagram is selling a lifestyle nobody should be trolling somebody it's ridiculous.

CinemaMinstrels · 01/02/2024 14:26

After reading some of these replies, it seems that some people still feel like it's justified, as they don't really like her. Just bizarre. Glad most think it's inexcusable.

I watched DOI on catch up last night. I know someone mentioned the accidental swearing, but honestly, I was quite pissed off with Stephen Mulhern for making her jump like that. She must already be on edge for obvious reasons, so he should have known better really.

I don’t think it’s fair to say that people in this thread seem to think the trolling is justified. No one said that, you asked what is with all the hate for her, and people explained why they do or don’t like her. I don’t really like her, but I’d never troll her and I think it’s awful that people do. I think that’s what a lot of people on here were saying.

Totally agree, I'm shocked by some of the comments on here. Apparently if you decide you don't really like someone, or you think they're on TV too much, it's perfectly acceptable for them to be vilified and bullied on social media. I despair.

JamAtTwo · 01/02/2024 14:53

She’s not my cup of tea. Too bland.

But why people hate her is a mystery.

Probably it is a touch of the green eyes monster. She’s pretty and successful and seems to have a charmed life, with no special talents. For those of us at the coal face of life that can be slightly irritating I guess! But anything more a bit puzzling.

JamAtTwo · 01/02/2024 14:57

The last presenter I actually enjoyed watching was Fern Britton. Married to that chef who ran off. She just seemed mature with a genuine personality. That “Judy Finnegan quality” in a way, though I preferred Fern. They got rid of her I think (was she seen as too old?).

CinemaMinstrels · 01/02/2024 15:01

@Everywomen I said some people. I was also specifically asking why she was being attacked on social media, mainly about her looks, not whether people actually liked her, so yes, some of these comments come across as justifying the trolling.

OP posts:
Rummikub · 01/02/2024 15:03

Dislike hw but doesn’t justify trolling at all.

I used to like ps in the broom cupboard. But the pair of them seemed too smug.

And that Lorraine. I cannot bear her fake persona. Time for her to go.

JamAtTwo · 01/02/2024 15:09

Lorraine Kelly - another unwatchable in my book. I too find her particular style of presentation fake. Mocking Nigel Farage for being old showed her immaturity in my book. But lots of people must watch her and presumably like her style.
