Can’t sleep…why are you awake?

I go through periods of not being able to sleep, evidently now is one of them. I can’t really put my finger on why this time round.
Anyone else up and about?

Awake since 5 as today might be the day I have to end a friendship. I'm so sad about it coming to this. And not entirely sure that I'll be able to go through with it

I didn't sleep all night. It's my grandads funeral today and it's killing me my best friend, my 2nd dad the final goodbye, I don't know how I will get thru the day tbh

@MissMoan Does he know the risks of not wearing it?

He does (I keep telling him), but keeps making excuses not to wear it. I do wonder what it is going to take for him to take his CPAP machine seriously.

@1stTimeMama I hope you managed to get some sleep.

It was a huge shock to me when I found out I was diabetic and I understand how worrying it is - especially when you see what the possible consequences could be. I'd like to give you some reassurance though - since finding out I've kept my blood sugar under control & I feel better than I have done for a long time (touch wood). The key is to look after yourself - difficult when you've got a young family, but you being healthy is for their benefit too - go for your eye checks, foot checks, blood tests etc.

I've been really helped by using the website www.diabetes.org.uk especially their forums. There are people there who've had diabetes for years & years, and lead normal healthy lives, and they've answered lots of my questions and given me lots of help in negotiating my way through diabetes. I can't recommend the Web site highly enough.

I keep optimistic because treatments continue to develop - my grandma had diabetes and had to test her blood sugar by boiling up wee in a test tube. When I started I had a little finger pricking gadget to test my blood glucose, now I've got a sensor on my arm that sends info to mu phone & warns me if my blood glucose is going too high or low. There are some people who have small "pumps" that adjust the insulin needed minute by minute, and there's research into immunotherapy etc.

Best wishes for your diabetic journey.

@chitofftheshovel Thank you! I console myself that I have always been a bit of a fitful sleeper, especially over the last few years so I have some experience of functioning on less sleep. DH will probably struggle more, nothing can normally wake that man!!
