Glasses wearers. How often do you clean them each day and how to get them grease free?

I’m really struggling with my glasses. I seem to be needing to clean them every five minutes. Even when I’ve cleaned them I can still see greasy patches when I check them, no matter how thorough I’ve been. I use cleaner spray and one of the special cloths, which is new and clean but I still feel I spend most of my day looking through a haze. I’ve stopped wearing eye makeup and only use eye cream at bedtime.
Can anyone offer any suggestions please?

I find washing up liquid the most effective

Talktometellmeyourname · 28/01/2024 19:12

I probably shouldn’t but I use washing up liquid. De greases them.

Justmuddlingalong · 28/01/2024 19:12

Same here. Washing up liquid and warm water.

I think the key is not to touch them
O clean mine every morning and when O get home from work and try not to touch them

DrSpartacular · 28/01/2024 19:12

Zeiss lens wipes are the only thing that works for me, they come up like new.

Itslegitimatesalvage · 28/01/2024 19:13

I give mine a wash with washing up liquid every morning.

WonderingWanda · 28/01/2024 19:13

Another one who uses washing up liquid or hand wash and a hot tap whenever they get too grim.

persisted · 28/01/2024 19:14

Lidl do a box of glasses cleaning wipes, it's just with the other cleaning stuff and they're great.
Generally clean them once a day in the morning, unless they get some other mank on them in the meantime.

Hermittrismegistus · 28/01/2024 19:14

I use the cheap wet spectacle wipes you can buy from homebargins, the pound shop etc.

DeltaAlphaDelta79 · 28/01/2024 19:14

I've never got on with the lens clothes and proper sprays. I use a glass/window cleaner spray on kitchen roll and find its the best thing for me.

HowDoTheyGetThroughLife · 28/01/2024 19:16

washing-up liquid, warm water. Dry with kitchen roll.

Pigeonqueen · 28/01/2024 19:16

Washing up liquid and a good quality glasses cloth.

Validus · 28/01/2024 19:16

Fairy liquid does the job. I usually just run them. Under the tap with a bit of soap.

try not to touch them. Mine go for days without needing a clean.

Missymarple · 28/01/2024 19:17

Mine don't even need washing up liquid, just a rinse under the tap on both sides and a good buff with a dry cloth.

(I use dry shampoo every 2nd day so glasses need cleaned afterwards. And I need the glasses on to see where I'm spraying 😂)

Topseyt123 · 28/01/2024 19:18

I run mine under the cold tap in the bathroom every morning and dry them carefully on my t-shirt.

Lifeinlists · 28/01/2024 19:18

If you've got special coatings on the lenses, don't use washing up liquid.

I use Boots glasses spray and a tissue or two. I've never got on with the 'special' cloths which always seem to leave a bit of a smear. Otherwise as pp says, try not to touch them.

FLOWER1982 · 28/01/2024 19:19

Glass cleaner and microfibre cloth. I wipe make up off with a tissue first and clean in the shower if particularly dirty.

pyewatchet · 28/01/2024 19:19

I use these for a daily clean: https://amzn.eu/d/06cuIXI but any cloth designed for cleaning glass should work. Agree washing up liquid occasionally for lots of smears

gaggiagirl · 28/01/2024 19:19

I need to to clean mine about 7 times a day. It makes me miserable. I feel like im looking through vaseline. I wash them in soap and hot water twice a day and go through glasses clothes like fury. I wish I had a solution for you op but I really do sympathise

greenacrylicpaint · 28/01/2024 19:20

washing up liquid/soap removes the coatings which can leave you with grease-like flecks.

we use glass cleaner or spectacle wipes.

ThePoshUns · 28/01/2024 19:25

Wash with hand soap and dry with microfibre cloth

catzrulz · 28/01/2024 19:27

@gaggiagirl me too, I've discovered it's my eyelashes!
They're not long and I don't wear mascara.
Blooming annoying, but I do like clean glasses.

KnickerlessFlannel · 28/01/2024 19:29

Honestly, I go literal weeks without cleaning mine. I don't touch then much, but wear make up and creams etc, but they very rarely seem smeary

Dontdeclutterthemagic · 28/01/2024 19:31

How are they getting dirty? Are you touching them a lot, can you try to break the habit.

I wear mine for all waking hours, I only clean them every 2-3 days (maybe?) with a good huff and my t shirt. Had this pair for 11 years and they aren't scratched or damaged. Once in a blue moon if I'm doing some really greasy cooking or the toddler gets them they might need a rinse under the tap with some liquid hand soap and dry on kitchen roll. That's very unusual though.

Same, pretty rarely and when I do I use the glasses spray as i was told years ago you shouldn’t use washing up if they’re coated.
