It is the last hour of BIG GARDEN BIRDWATCH 2024!

Get yourself to the garden or to the balcony and take part!

Only just realised it was this weekend when I was listening to GUY GARVEY on BBC6 MUSIC!

Go. Go. Go.

We were idly watching the birds having a great time on the feeders yesterday with plans to do it properly this afternoon. Left it a bit late and forgot we would be looking into the sunset so have been doing our best with silhouettes and what we can spot through the binoculars.
Saw loads yesterday but hardly anything in the last hour, even though the birdsong is beautiful. On the whole, we have had far fewer birds in the garden this winter.

And our results were ...

3 x Magpies
2 x Ring-Necked Parakeets
2 x Carrion Crows

I wish I had realised that it was this weekend sooner!

Doh!

We normally have a tribe of Magpies and Parakeets in this part of West London! So many Magpies and Parakeets!

The Magpies are really, really, really loud!

When I leave the flat at times it feels like you are in "THE BIRDS"!

1 wren
3 pigeons
3 blackbirds
3 long tailed tits

Oh Wow! @Butteredtoast55That is fabulous! I did count 21 Magpies in our garden the other day! Not sure if that is normal or not for Zone 2 in West London ...

I clearly need to do some more research on this!

We had fewer birds than we usually see during the hour we chose and no long tailed tits, wrens or dunnocks which come most days. But we did get a nuthatch, a jay and a common buzzard!

And a shout out to GUY GARVEY and his MUSIC TO WATCH BIRDS BY 2024 Show today, if I hadn't been listening I would not have realised it was The Big Garden Birdwatch this weekend!

Fabulous as always!

I've done it from my mum's garden previously. She has loads.of bird feeders and usually has loads of finches, it's as well as some larger birds in there.

Round there today and there was only one bird - a sparrowhawk!!! Think the little birds had seen sense!!

@YesTonightJosephine
I know - we are so lucky but on last year's count we had eight long tailed tits at the same time and more goldfinches and coal tits. I don't know whether the magpies, squirrels and jackdaws are putting them off! The absolute joy of joys last summer though was seeing red kites over the fields beyond our garden.
And I agree - Guy Garvey is wonderful!
