She has two older brothers so we have lots of toys ( aka shit) cluttering the house. What did you buy your daughter for her first birthday?

An ERF car seat and a wheely bug. 😂 Seriously, yes, that’s what she got, with a bit of birthday money pooled from grandparents too (the seat was at the time a £400 back when ERF wasn’t really what it is today). The car seat and wheely bug both lasted 10 years for 2 children, so was money well spent. A friend bought her a child sized ceramic mug, which seemed odd at the time for a 1 year old, but that’s still going strong and regularly used a decade later too.

idontlikealdi · 28/01/2024 11:45

I dot dts scuttle bugs and a swing

saltnvini · 28/01/2024 11:45

Duplo

Auntieobem · 28/01/2024 11:46

I have no idea at all, and neither of my DDs remember either. Probably v little because family etc will have gotten them stuff

Hiwhoeveryyouare · 28/01/2024 11:47

I got her a push along trike with sun shade and belt from ELC. Used it loads going into town and was a nice change from the buggy.

user1471459476 · 28/01/2024 11:48

A little trike with a handle to push but also pedals for when she was older. It got used well for 2 years and passed on to someone else

SwordToFlamethrower · 28/01/2024 11:48

Indoor climbing frame and a set of farm animals

Hiwhoeveryyouare · 28/01/2024 11:48

Snap!

AmyDubanowski · 28/01/2024 11:50

A little ball pit. Which she loved but I didn’t after tidying it up 100 times a day 🤣

reluctantbrit · 28/01/2024 11:59

Building blocks
a shape sorter
toddler puzzle

She also got a book with good night stories from my mum and my PIL gave us some money.

Chicken pox vaccine! 😆

bluebird3 · 28/01/2024 12:07

Rocking horse and Tonie box were bigger presents and the. Dolls and pushchair, cradle. Have attached some photos of my dd's favourite toys at that age

And this is a huge hit

I don't think we got her anything. Nor DC1. They both got loads from others and would have no idea what was from who.

Stressfordays · 28/01/2024 12:16

I have the same as you, 2 boys then a girl. I got my daughter clothes mostly then one of those push along prams with a first dolly. Not the rickety ones, a sturdy one that is designed for first walkers.

CatPancake · 28/01/2024 12:18

A sensory basket and a couple of books. We bought her things as she grew and needed them and developed which was every couple of months. No point splurging on first birthday when at 15 months she becomes obsessed with a playframe thing you didn’t know about at 12 months.

BouleDeSuif · 28/01/2024 12:20

A cuddly pigeon (she was pigeon mad) and a little pull-along Elmer the Elephant.

greywolfie · 28/01/2024 12:21

rubber ducks

fightingthedogforadonut · 28/01/2024 12:25

(Have a son not a daughter.)

Bought him one of those push-along wheely animals on a stick, which he loved. Also a Upsy Daisy doll and mega blocks.

AliasGrape · 28/01/2024 12:27

We got her a (second hand) little tikes playhouse for the garden and then with the money grandparents gave we bought a mud kitchen for the garden too. Both had plenty of use.

However a real win was the plastic teaset I just grabbed for the sake of something to wrap she’s 3.5 now and still plays almost daily with it. I’m sure it was about £5 from wilko - it was similar to this one but I don’t think it cost this much. https://theonlinetoystore.co.uk/products/tea-set-carry-case-play-set-childrens-roleplay-toy-plastic-primary-teaset?variant=40184098554021

Also it wasn’t for her birthday but she loved this and we still have it now -

And was obsessed with this around that age. I got it for £5 on marketplace and sold it for the same amount once she’d outgrown it -

Nadda. She didn’t know it was her birthday so why bother, and if we had to get something it would have been an empty box with wrapping paper in it as kids that age have more fun with that than the gift in it generally. Also, they had older siblings so we had baby/toddler toys and clothes so no point buying stuff for the sake of it. Poor kid only got her own socks and vests when she started high school, until then hand me downs. But they always all had their own undies which they got to choose when toilet training and then on after that.

DreamingInPhosphorescence · 28/01/2024 12:32

Opened a bank account and bought a few presents that no one can now remember.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/01/2024 12:51

IIRC one of those wooden push-along things, with assorted coloured wooden bricks inside. She was already just walking on her first b-day.

For other first birthdays I’ve bought one of those furry push-along dogs on wheels.

Thanks so much for these brilliant suggestions!
