Taking the pill continuously - what is happening during these 9 weeks?

On doctors advise I am to take the pill back to back for 3 packs, then 4 days break.
I am half way through the third pack. Had a short bleed as usual after pack 1, which quickly stopped after immediately going on pack 2.

No bleed since, and I do not seem to have had a PMS since before that last bleed.
Usually I have a foul week towards the end of the pack.

I just do not understand if this is psychosomatic or does back-to-back pill change your cycle, so there was no PMS. Asking today because I am feeling funky today, but have lost track of days when my PMS would usually hit, so not sure if this hormonal (can it be?) or I am just tired and grumpy after works trip?
