Cars waking me up

Does anybody else have trouble with noisy cars? God, I’m so sick of this. People have been complaining for years, but nothing changes. I don’t know what the little idiots do to make their cars so loud but it’s driving me mad. I can hear the screeching and revving of engines all weekend. Either that or the crackling, banging, exploding sound of car exhausts.

It begins on Friday evening and goes on until Sunday night. The sound goes right through the house, even with the TV on. They also wake me up at night. How do they get away with it? I can’t believe the police never pull them over. It wouldn’t take much. Just fine a couple of them and word would spread.

I am assuming you have tried earplugs?

YourGoatAteMyFishfinger · 27/01/2024 22:02

I imagine the police are far too busy over the weekends , which is typically a time many people consume alcohol and problems/violence can arise , to prioritise noisy cars.
It sound hell though, can you still hear them if you’ve tried earplugs in at night? If you played white noise would you be able to sleep through?

I wouldn’t expect them to prioritise it. But if they’d just pull a couple of them over and fine them £50, word would soon spread. It really affects my nerves. They woke me up twice last night. It’s just relentless.

they have special noise cameras that send automatic fines to noisy cars somewhere in fancy SW London.
when I am King I will make a law that says if your car makes a noise over a certain volume the fine will be £10 for each person living within earshot of your selfishness.

Noisy cars constantly all weekend? Do you live in the middle of the M4? I hear noisy cars occasionally. Don’t remember when I last heard a backfire. I can’t imagine it happening all weekend all day and night.
I live in a busy residential area near a large city, for reference.

I know councils always struggle for cash, but they’d only need one or two acoustic cameras. If they just caught and fined a few of the idiots word would quickly spread.

I’m on the edge of a market town in rural Essex, but it really is relentless. This weekend has been unbearable. They sound like aeroplanes coming in to land. I don’t know what the hell is going on. I can hear them as I type.

Then you're really lucky. I work in Bletchley and the number of cars that have had illegally modified exhausts, (noise), or illegal remaps, (snap crackle and pop, aka backfires), is horrendous.

Probably 5 per hour on the local nsl dual carriageway.

coatonthewashingline · 29/01/2024 11:03

Cameras make their money back fast… and what’s good is that the money is all ring fenced for transport so the selfish fools are paying to make things better for the rest of us.
Why aren’t these things caught on MOT/why don’t these mods render cars uninsurable?? I genuinely don’t understand.

Thank god. I was starting to think it’s just me being over-sensitive.

It's at times like these I am glad to have poor hearing and tinnitus!
