DS12 brought the pestilence home on Wednesday. By Thursday afternoon he was right as rain.

But he’s done a great job of sharing it round! DD15, DD16, DH and I are all down with it. We are all switching between bed and, when the drugs kick in, dragging our sorry arses downstairs to watch The Traitors (no spoilers, it’s all that’s keeping us going at the moment.)

DDog is living her best life as she gets to sleep with me in the spare bed, next to a toasty radiator.

DS12 is in charge of catering. So we can have anything as long as it’s toast. Now and again he chucks a satsuma our way ‘for the vitamins.’

Now and again, when I’m busy and stressed, I secretly wish for a bedworthy minor illness. Be careful what you wish for!

Please share your sorrows….

My sons had it for a week.... each!!!! Cold and flu tablets and stay in bed. Virtual hugs x

BouleDeSuif · 27/01/2024 16:51

Oh it's horrible! My joints were so painful I thought I was getting rheumatism (I am slightly dramatic when ill) and I woke up on the first night with all of my body throbbing.
Lemsip capsules and lots of tea and a bath.

MargaretThursday · 27/01/2024 16:52

I have had covid and now have pleurisy as a kind side-effect of covid.

I have to be honest and say that I thought pleurisy was one of those Victorian illnesses that was exaggerated in literature.
It isn't.

I wish pleurisy stayed in the Victorian novels.

FirstFallopians · 27/01/2024 16:54

I became unwell on Tuesday afternoon. By Tuesday evening DH was saying he also felt unwell… Funny that…

Awful aches and pains,, cough, headaches, fatigue- thought it was a bad cold, but when my dinner tasted like chemicals on Wednesday it prompted me to do a Covid test. DH and I both have it, and now poor DD (6) has come down with it.

It’s the 3rd time I’ve had it and easily the worst dose so far.

viktoria · 27/01/2024 16:54

Mine started on Monday (after my DD had first signs of it on Saturday).
Cough, aches all over and total lack of energy
Have been in bed solidly since Wednesday. Today is the first day I have moved from my bed to the sofa. But now my sinus is very painful.
Going on holiday on Tuesday. I hope I'll be over the worst...

ChewyFlumpGummy · 27/01/2024 16:54

No dreaded lurgy but everyone has a cold.

itsgoingtobeabumpyride · 27/01/2024 16:58

I had it all over Christmas, started on Christmas Eve, didn't start to feel better until the 2nd Jan just in time to go back to work.
Yesterday I've come down with it again, fluey, headache, blocked nose, sinus pain, chesty cough (keeping the neighbours awake), ache all over.

Dinoland · 27/01/2024 16:58

@thaegumathteth yeah, I've told them. Hence the takeaway rather than me cooking. I'd much rather they not come at all! But at least they will help with bedtimes.

LaChienneDesFromages · 27/01/2024 17:30

Commiserations to those of you who’ve had it linger. I hope everyone starts to feel better soon.

Here, DD15 peaked an hour ago and is back in bed. She says her tonsils feel like golf balls, bless her.

DD16 hasn’t stirred but it’s not entirely clear if she’s ill, tired from Year 11 shenanigans or just enjoying the peace and quiet. She looked quite grey when she shut her door three hours ago.

I’ve just treated myself to a couple of paracetamol and hope I’ll be well enough to make Marmite pasta for supper in had an hour or so.

DDogs are both downstairs going stir crazy. So the cat has joined me up here!

Oh no - horrible

you are not alone I think I caught mine on a flight full of sneezers on Monday. Been on the sofa since weds. The cats are liking it at least.

I’m finding comfort in Ribena! Hope everyone feels better soon this is shite

runningpink · 27/01/2024 18:05

Me!
I have never felt so ill in my life.

Bed bound with Flu symptoms all week, feel more human today but I’m still coughing away, snotty and tired.

Truly horrendous. Just hope the last lingering symptoms clear off asap.

JudeGarret · 27/01/2024 20:36

Think I have found the magic drugs, solpadine max dissolvable tablets take the edge off for about 2hrs

Pascha · 28/01/2024 11:45

I was right. I feel like shit. My eyeballs ache along with everything else. I'm drinking lots of ginger tea and have no appetite. Ds is back to his usual self, albeit a little less bouncy, so hopefully it will be gone by tomorrow evening.

ColinRobinsonsFart · 28/01/2024 18:27

My fucking teeth hurt - it's not toothache- it's jaw and gum ache. If I bite down it hurts more.
I keep feeling faint.
DH has done the cleaning today as I have been lesson planning. He has had to keep sitting down - we are both struggling.

I really couldn't face cooking this evening so I cooked some frozen homemade sausage rolls from Christmas, some frozen homemade soup and cheese and biscuits.
I just had the soup - DH could be on his deathbed and he would still be able to eat!

And my eyes hurt!

LaChienneDesFromages · 28/01/2024 19:52

Welcome to the sorry-for-ourselves club newcomers!

I have been a bit better today. Still very tired and with a chesty cough but the chills stopped this morning.

I managed leggings and an ancient, tea stained cashmere (super cosy!) tunic which is almost getting dressed. One DDog got a walk round the block. They will certainly love their 2 hour packwalk tomorrow. DH is really unwell. He’s taking tomorrow off- his first sick day since 2012!

DD16 has brightened up a bit but DD15 is in the throes. She’s a keen singer (thankfully her grade exam was last week) and inevitably get laryngitis off the back of these bugs.

DS12 continues to be having the time of his life, being barely parented and rotating TV, IPad and practising light sabre battles.

People with random aches- you have my sympathy. It’s horrible and sooooo boring.

Wishing you all well soon.

I thought I had a migraine yesterday...dosed every 2 hours with paracetamol/ibuprofen. Buy have now developed a sore throat, face aches, sinus' hurt and my left ear is bunged up, buzzing and area below it feels swollen. Still have horrible stuffy headache.

Thought I was dying. But now I've seen this thread, I realise I'm being OTT and it may just be a virus... 🙄

LaChienneDesFromages · 29/01/2024 17:33

Good afternoon fellow lurgy-sufferers.

Ours’ is still a house of pestilence. We should have a cross on the door. The fever and chills have stopped but we are all so tired. Drove DS to school and I managed a morning mostly on the sofa but then needed a nap after lunch.

DD and I then cheered ourselves up watching Chernobyl.

DH went to Boots for more Calpol/ Beechams so I’m on supper cooking tonight. Fair to say, it’ll be a half arsed affair!

How is everyone else doing?

Ooh I had pleurisy in my teens, bloody awful! The pain just to breathe 😫

user1471538283 · 29/01/2024 17:41

Yes me! I'm utterly miserable. I'm exhausted but not sleeping, my head is in half and my eyes are watering. I'm very shaky on my feet and boiling hot or very cold. I'm managing to chuck some food in the oven but I've yet to have a shower today.

This is only the second day and I already want my life back.

I hope we are all soon well.

Dinoland · 29/01/2024 17:54

Ugh. I still feel crap. It's been four days. I'm feeling like my eyes zap when I move them too quickly. So strange! I'm freezing but everyone else says the house is warm. I was hoping to go to a conference tomorrow which I was really looking forward to but I think I'm going to have to bow out. Although I'm secretly looking forward to a sofa day and some trashy tv. Honestly can't remember the last time I had some time to myself.

Roundtable83 · 29/01/2024 17:54

My poor hubby has been up with D&V since 3am! He’s a tough cookie and rarely unwell but he’s been so poorly today. Couldn’t even keep water down until a couple of hours ago! Apparently stomach bugs are rife in our area at the moment?! Just been to the chemist to get him some rehydration powders and Lucozade. We were supposed to have two viewings on our house this evening but have of course had to reschedule those until he’s completely better. I do feel for him and everyone else who is feeling rotten and under the weather 🤢 🤧

ColinRobinsonsFart · 29/01/2024 17:55

Wfh today ( I am self employed) hot lemon and co codamol.
Shuffled to the local pharmacy for some more paracetamol and to pick up my prescription- pharmacist is a friend and told me I looked 'poorly'
Went next door for milk and got similar response in there.
Shuffled home
Got in the sofa to recover.

Got to drive 50 miles to run a day course tomorrow... I am already dreading it.

Teeth and eyes still hurt but not as sneezing as I was
I can hear high pitched whistling in my ears...

Splodgerbodgerbadger · 29/01/2024 18:35

I went back to work this morning but still feel so exhausted. Had to have a nap when I got in this morning then again after work this aft. Face is aching again and my fingers.

Icouldbehappy · 29/01/2024 18:43

All of the above.
I’ve never felt so ill.
