Advice on renting with poor credit history

My brother and his wife have been given notice on their rental house as it’s for sale. They had 3 months to vacate and currently have 6 weeks left.

I helped initially with the search and there was plenty out there in their price range so I sent some links and checked in regularly.

He had been saying they kept missing out on the properties but yesterday confided they have an IVA and a CCJ between them.

They have 3 children and I’m not sure how to help next?

They have been to the council who have given advice so they are informed on that front but my question is, will they ever be able to rent again with this history? They have a guarantor too. They are midlands based. Are there any agencies that rent to this demographic? I’ve had a Google but can’t see anything.

I just don’t know how to help 😞

They may struggle, the rental market is hard enough as it is - landlords have plenty of prospective tenants to chose from.

Can they pay a chunk of rent upfront?

I worked in housing for a while, I would honestly advise them to stay put until the eviction is court ordered and not leave until bailiffs arrive. It is really, really shit but the council are not obligated to help them if they make themselves intentionally homeless. a secure council tenancy is the best hope for them, they will probably need to stay in temporary accommodation for a while first but they will be housed.

Ask them to speak to Shelter.

Thank you. They have a 3 month rent payment upfront.

I’ll ask him if he’s spoken to shelter.
