Could be having an eptopic pregnancy

Have had stabbing and dull ache pain in my right ovary and back for a few weeks now. It’s suddenly got worse I haven’t been assigned a midwife yet so phoned the doctor. After my appointment this morning I was told I would be called today with an appointment for a scan today tomorrow or Sunday at the latest. I still haven’t received a call should I call and chase or give more time. Had a miscarriage in December so I’m really worried. Am sat by my phone trying to distract myself. Doctor said if it gets worse to go to an and e but there is a wait of 10 hours.

I'd give them a bit longer. If nothing by, say, 4:30 then call back.

I have had an ectopic. The pain was unbearable. Also went into my back - what is called ‘shoulder tip’ pain. If it becomes very painful (I’d say anything more than a 6/10), I would get it checked out. I also had a strong feeling something was wrong.

However in both my successful pregnancies I had a full ache in my ovary, from the corpus luteum, which pumps out hormones in the first weeks. So a dull ache is common.

Just tried to find the number incase I do have to call but it says they close at 12.30

I finally got through to the right department. they said that they spoke to my doctor and got it wrong as they didn’t realise tomorrow is Saturday so they can’t see me until Monday. No one called me to tell me and I’ve been sat by the phone not wanting to miss it. He said I can take paracetamol and to come to a and e if the pain continues it’s not gone yet and been half an hour will be getting my bits together incase I go to a and e

What other symptoms are you having OP?

I actually may be inclined to go to a&e but see how you are in yourself, because if you seem otherwise well they will leave you for 10 odd hours.

If the pain is unbearable, if you pass out, feel faint, clammy, start to vomit, have diarrhoea, then it is absolutely an a&e emergency.

NotDoingOk · 26/01/2024 16:42

With mine, I had sudden, excruciating pain every time I needed to pass wind or have a bowel movement. That was what tipped the doctor off.

mushypeas94 · 26/01/2024 17:00

I would go to A&E if you are worried. I had an ectopic that then ruptured. My pain was very manageable definitely not a 6/10 even as I was bleeding internally. It was more like 2/10.

OnSilverStars · 26/01/2024 17:03

I have had an ectopic and I had no pain. Just started bleeding. I would call 111 and they should make you an appointment at A&E

How were things overnight OP?

Happyorsad · 28/01/2024 00:57

Spent 10 hours in an and e they did bloods which came back normal I’m due a scan on Monday. Gynaecologist said I’m at increased risk of eptopic but that he didn’t think I was having one. He said pain can be normal. Feeling relieved but won’t fully relax until the scan.

I had an ectopic which had progressed quite far; no idea I was pregnant as hubby had a vasectomy!! Ended up having emergency surgery on NYE 2022 as had started to bleed internally.
My symptoms were: uncomfortable cramping (but bearable), really
hurt when I tried to do a poo, on-off light bleeding. Also then morning sickness. This continued for a couple of months until I collapsed the evening before I was admitted.
I really hope all is OK for you 🙏

Please go to A and E . An Ectopic is life threatening. Look after yourself O/P

Please please insist on getting this checked sooner,my cousin almost died from a ruptured ectopic pregnancy;she had to have an emergency hysterectomy and needed multiple blood transfusions;she was so poorly afterwards she was in intensive care for a few days.

witmum · 28/01/2024 08:04

I had an ectopic but my tube did not rupture for another week.

It is good that they have taken bloods as these can be rechecked on Monday at your scan.

If you get a sudden feeling of someone poleaxing/ punching you in the stomach so to A&E as that could be a rupture. Mine happened in Aldi and I could barely walk.

Take care of yourself and even if it is an ectopic your fertility only reduces a little as one filopian tube can service both overies. I went on to conceive my son 2 months later.

This is what happened to me . This is why I urged the O/P to get this checked out asap . Don't gamble with your life .

Me too. I was very close to death. No pain. Light bleeding.

Happyorsad · 29/01/2024 16:13

got called yesterday to say I was to go in for bloods on Monday and they would give me a scan appointment. Had my appointment today I’m being scanned tomorrow they say my bloods are all ok and the midwife/ doctor said they were certain I wasn’t having one due to my symptoms. I did try and mention my worries about eptopic but they said I shouldn’t worry the pain I’m experiencing is very normal in pregnancy. It’s my first pregnancy after an early miscarriage so I don’t no what symptoms are normal.
