Moving to Teeside locality

Hi everyone, looking for a bit of advice. Intending to move to Teeside area in the next 6 months or so. Family all live in the area. Spending a lot of time browsing houses etc online but very conflicted on best areas. Have seen some nice houses in New Marske but have been advised by a few people to keep clear - not sure why?? Any advice gratefully received!

Have you looked at Saltburn? You could also look at Darlington.
Many areas of Teesside are very deprived but there are nice parts of all of the towns too. There are good schools in all of the towns too if you need schools.

I'm not overly familiar with New Maske.

Where do you need to be near?

Marske and New Marske (pronounced mask!) are lovely. Easy to get to Guisborough, Redcar, Middlesbrough for shopping.
Saltburn is great but so expensive and most properties are getting snapped up to become holiday lets. It's also heaving in the summer with tourists and there's nowhere to park.

PabloPawcasso · 26/01/2024 04:29

Marske is lovely! I know there is a bit of controversy over extra houses being built in new marske but without extra provision for Drs, schools etc 🤷🏻

SnowsFalling · 26/01/2024 06:16

I've only ever driven through New Marske, but get the impression there aren't many facilities, where as Marske has a high street. Is that an issue for you - if im correct!

Autumn1990 · 26/01/2024 06:22

Have you looked at yarm? Also great ayton.

SchoolQuestionnaire · 26/01/2024 06:56

Agree with Yarm. Would be here or Saltburn for me if I had to live there. My preference would be to commute from North Yorkshire.

Chocolateteabag · 26/01/2024 07:00

I'd also put in for around Northallerton and Stokesley - both only 15-30 from Teeside

CormorantStrikesBack · 26/01/2024 07:02

If I was moving back to Teesside it would be guisborough, yarm and great ayton I’d be looking around.

RedundancyRita · 26/01/2024 07:11

Oh yes, I'd forgotten about Yarm. Have a look there.

DisforDarkChocolate · 26/01/2024 07:14

We did lots of looking in this area last year. Has you considered Skeleton-in-Cleveland?

I didn't like Yarm, too many housing estates and terrible town centre parking.

mjf981 · 26/01/2024 07:28

I'll echo others - I'd live in North Yorkshire. Stokesley or Great Ayton are lovely places.

Thingamebobwotsit · 26/01/2024 07:54

Yarm, Great Ayton, Stokesley, Guisborough, Wolviston, would be my picks. If you want to live in one of the bigger towns to be closer to family, there are nice pockets in most.

Trace67 · 26/01/2024 19:26

I have family in Stockton and Redcar, so looking at about 10 mile radius of either.

I have looked at Skelton. My brother moved out of Skelton a few years ago, bunt I do like it. However, perhaps the bottom end rather than up on the hills.

Norton? Sedgefield? Wolviston?

hattymattie · 26/01/2024 19:31

Stokesley would be my pick. Yarm nice but a victim of its success. Great Ayton pretty but not much happening.

IggyAce · 26/01/2024 19:45

Yarm, Norton and Sedgefield are nice. Wynyard is popular but it’s fast becoming another Ingelby Barracks.

Mumaway · 26/01/2024 19:54

Great Ayton, Saltburn, Yarm

Hijinks75 · 26/01/2024 19:56

Lots of nice small towns, villages, avoid Stockton and Middlesbrough

DrunkenKoala · 26/01/2024 20:26

(Not from the area but have family there) I really like Stokesley and Northallerton. My Dad lived in Great Ayton for the last 20 yrs of his life (died recently) and he really liked it but it was a bit too quiet for me. My aunts and cousins live in Yarm - looks nice but I don’t know it that well.
