Doorstep Selling

Does anyone else feel uneasy when the doorbell rings of an evening, to be confronted by a stranger claiming to be from some sort of rehab programme for drug abuse or prison, trying to sell tea towels, dusters or some other junk that costs a fortune? I don’t have a Ring type doorbell to see who’s there before opening the door, so I’m immediately left in a situation where I say “no thanks” but then worry that because I refused to buy, they’re going to scope the place, come back and throw something through my windows.
I always feel a bit threatened.

Just had one knock here. He was really aggressive when I said no. Swore at me and kicked my front door.
Who are they working for?!

Had one many years ago. He was really rude and as he was leaving Bumbledog got through the door and went after him. Horrid man threw his bag at Bdog which didn't end well for him after I screamed at him.
We now have a no cold callers sign on the glass by the door. If anyone rings the bell now selling things I point at the sign and shut the door.

They are scammers.

Make sure you keep your back door locked as while one is at the front door their companion may be breaking in at the back looking to steal a handbag, phone, or car and house keys for car stealing or burglary later on.

We moved from central London 3yrs ago to a coastal village. DH and I both WFH, but also have cameras and a ring type door bell. Recently, had a charity collecting and a religious group- but I didn't answer the door.

I've never seen any duster sellers, ex cons or anyone selling anything 🤔

When I worked in A&E many years ago, I did have a patient try to sell me wheels of cheese from his massive duffle bag though! I did wonder whether he was a door to door cheese salesman or where he planned to sell them? 😕

Nottingham Knockers. Those are precisely the tactics they use. They are notorious.

Why tea towels?
