Has anyone read a thread on here and recognised who it was about? Or even realised it was about them?!

Not asking for specifics of course, just curious if it’s happened to anyone!

(Also so as not to drip feed, neither has happened to me, just wondering bored at work this afternoon)

I'm in a due date group for our now primary school aged children, it started on here, but moved over to facebook and then whatsapp. Some of us have met up in real life. One person from the group will copy and paste what she's posted on MN into the facebook group, her own FB status, and sometimes the whatsapp group too. I often recognise her now, through many different name changes, as I'll have already read it all in about 3 different places already!

Yes! I don't want to go into detail, as it really would be potentially outing if the person who posted the thread saw this post. I am a teacher and it was posted by the parent of a student I teach, about a situation in school that I was involved with (not something I'd done wrong!). Fortunately the situation was resolved with a good outcome for all concerned. It was a bit of a shock when I saw the thread though!

LaPalmaLlama · 24/01/2024 15:47

Yes- it was an extremely specific and memorable situation that happened to someone my sister knows so I assume it was her. I’ve also semi recognised a few posts on living overseas but those scenarios were less outing so couldn’t be sure it was that person.

Been on Mn for years and I've never.

These threads come up all the time! Yes I’ve recognised someone’s birth story at a baby group (very unusual and she confirmed she was the MNer!)

zazasabore · 24/01/2024 16:04

Yes twice - two different people. Definitely them as both threads contained very specific details.

TinySnowdrops · 24/01/2024 16:37

Yes, a very specific post about me. I thought she was a friend but the way she spoke about me was so derogatory. It absolutely destroyed me for months. I eventually contacted her anonymously to let her know that I recognised her from her posts so she presumably name changed. In some respects I wish I hadn't as it would be nice to know what else she has said about me since!!

QuarterPastThree · 24/01/2024 16:43

Yes, it was on extra-curricular, and our dc's were both involved in the same activity. I recognised the poster immediately, and actually sent her a PM so she knew who I was as well.

candaby653 · 24/01/2024 16:45

I have recognised someone the same person twice but only because she has a very specific writing style. Never anything sensational just normal every day kids stuff

Purplestarballoon · 24/01/2024 19:45

That’s more than I thought! But some of those examples make sense.
I’ve spent a few years on here now and it feels like a secret (massive😂) club so imagine it’s strange when it crosses in to real life.

I’ve often wondered in some of the posts about affairs/OW etc the other woman involved ever recognises her situation.
