Is it unusual to want a good hotel disco on holiday when you’re 55?

Just back from the Caribbean. Our hotel had the best disco on till 1am, with fantastic music. We are in our 50’s and were the last to leave every night. We are not like this at home ( too busy with work). One of our adult kids thinks this isn’t normal. What do you think? We loved it!!

Not inusual. Discos are great.

Not19foreverpullyourselftogether · 23/01/2024 20:48

Not my thing, I’d go out of my way to avoid a hot with a disco. Quiet drinks in an atmospheric setting for me.

I'm in my 50's and the best part of holiday is dancing manically in a foreign country where no one knows you

Windymcwindyson · 23/01/2024 20:48

girlfriend44 Tom Jones fan?

notknowledgeable · 23/01/2024 20:49

Its definitely an our generation thing, not for our children's generation

jocktamsonsbairn · 23/01/2024 20:50

I'm 53 and always the last to go home!!! 😂 I'd love it!

No.

Need to visualise this. Was it Studio 54 style disco or like you're dancing at a wedding?

Rocknrollstar · 23/01/2024 20:51

In my 70s. I started the dancing every night on holiday last year. Love a disco. Did a river cruise two years ago and my friend went to bed at ten while I stayed up dancing with the captain. No one knows me, so who cares?

We’ve booked for Cancun this year, and one of the things I looked for was disco/nightclub. Kids are old enough now that DH and I can proper let our hair down, and stagger back to room when we’ve had enough!

Gwenhwyfar · 23/01/2024 21:09

I've never stayed at a hotel with a disco. It wouldn't even occur to me.

itsmylife7 · 23/01/2024 21:12

Sounds fantastic. 💃

I'm 43 and frugal, bordering on miserly and I would pay quite a bit extra for a hotel without a disco.

Ponderingwindow · 23/01/2024 21:28

I’m your age and I avoid hotels with discos. I don’t want a busy bar either.

even when I was 20 my ideal was someplace quiet I could do a lot of reading while I sipped a cocktail and occasionally took a swim.

Userengage · 23/01/2024 21:30

Hotel with a disco sounds fab. I might start looking for one.

chimichangaz · 23/01/2024 21:31

I love cruising and on my last one in September we had a fab night in the disco dancing to loads of Latin American music. Best night I've had for ages. I've just turned 58.

I was listening to the radio last week and Vicky McClure was on talking about a day disco she's involved in called Day Fever. Held on a Saturday afternoon and over by 8pm - you have to be over 30. Sounds fab and I can't wait until there's one near me!!

SingsongSu · 23/01/2024 21:32

Absolutely yes with my girlfriends.
Absolutely not with DH.
I love Mexico too!

LunaNorth · 23/01/2024 21:33

My friends and I love going out dancing. Look for Jo Whiley’s 90s Anthems, Silent Discos, and Gary Davies 80s nights - they’re always doing the rounds.

TheFairyCaravan · 23/01/2024 21:39

The hotel we stayed in in Cape Verde had a nightclub. It was always the over 40s who were the last to leave. There weren’t that many of us though, tbf.

It’s been refurbished since I went and it looks like they’ve taken it away.

She was on the One Show talking about this tonight - it sounds great!

Me and DH wouldn't actively seek out a hotel with a disco, but if it's got one then we love to have a bit of a 'turn around the dancefloor' <ahem>
