Ovarian cyst and pregnancy

I've had cramping pain on and off for a week and a scan showed a 4.5cm ovarian cyst. The gynaecologist that I saw said it looked like the common type of cyst and should disappear with my period.

I am hoping I might be pregnant though. I'd normally have some spotting by now in my cycle, I'm feeling a little nauseous and I did an OPK and it was darker than I'd expect (I need to get a pregnancy test as I've used all mine up obsessively using them these past few months). I know I'm getting ahead of myself but has anyone had a cyst like this and then gotten pregnant? I'm hoping it would still go away or at least stop hurting.

I'm so anxious. I don't even know that I'm pregnant and I'm already tying myself in knots about this cyst and whether it will hurt the "baby". I had an 18 week loss last summer and I've had two 9 week losses before that (but I've also been blessed with a DD and a DS).

Yes I had cysts and become pregnant. I couldn’t use urine pregnancy tests as the cysts gave a false positive, had to had blood tests.

Oh interesting, I'll bear that in mind. Probably now I've made this thread my cyst will burst and period will appear tomorrow morning.

So sorry for your losses.

I've had benign cysts throughout all three of my pregnancies that have ultimately resolved themselves. No issues with the pregnancies or my babies.

Wish you all the best

That's good to hear. Did they resolve quickly or only after you gave birth?

@PenguinBall my last one had resolved itself at some point during the pregnancy or afterwards, I had a scan three months after my last baby was born to check on it (they always check mine thanks to a dodgy history - unrelated to pregnancy) and it had gone by then, but in all my scans once the baby was bigger they couldn't see it because he was in the way! So a bit hard to tell really

I see, thank you for sharing. I will definitely know once this one is gone as it's quite painful. I really, really want to be pregnant but I was taking my period arriving this month and the cyst disappearing with it as a very hefty consolation prize!

Many years ago (1982) I became pregnant whilst I had an ovarian cyst. I actually had the cyst operated on to remove before I realised I was pregnant. Found out that I was 4 weeks pregnant 3 days after the op. Thankfully everything was fine and I went on to have my DD 8 months later.

Hi, can i ask what the size of the cyst was? I have a dermoid and its just under 5 cms and i have conflicting advice on removal.

Evolvingunapologetically · 21/09/2024 15:36

I went for an early scan and the sonographer said there was a 5cm cyst just under my uterus I went back two weeks later and it was measuring just under 4cm, i first had one two years ago which was 9cm went went by itself I think they just come and go.. sometimes I can feel stomach cramping but nothing too bad but I think it’s just a case of monitoring them .. x

I had an ovarian cyst way back in 1982 and still became pregnant. I had a laparoscopy to remove it as it was causing me considerable pain, then found out a week later that I was 4 weeks pregnant.
