I’ve taken the liberty again.

Old thread here..

I never buy the SW projections where they have Labour taking huge %s off Tory and Lib Dem. I just don’t see it happening.

That map has the seat of my tractor porn loving MP as a Con hold with Labour second and LD 3rd. Obviously the boundaries will change but it swung massively to the Lib Dem’s in the by election. The Tories would have to undo that and regain seats for that to happen.

RafaistheKingofClay · 01/02/2024 20:21

My error. It has LD second and lab 3rd with 22% of the vote.

I'm in Liam Fox's constituency. Despite what the polling says, I'd be amazed if Labour won anywhere round here (apart from Bristol).
I'd love to see Foxy and Grease-Smug kicked out though so I live in eternal hope

DuncinToffee · 01/02/2024 22:43

We have a new constituency, J Hunt has chosen the safer one so I am unfamiliar with both the Tory and LD candidate. Labour has been busy in local papers but no candidate yet.

RafaistheKingofClay · 01/02/2024 23:24

Bristol, Exeter, Plymouth being red I can see. Central Devon and huge swathes of Cornwall seem unlikely.

I’m guessing the issue is with LDs making themselves hugely unelectable after the coalition. They’ve been out in the wilderness for years but they aren’t any more so if you are doing something based purely on vote swing and the last few election results is going to look odd in places where until 2015 the LDs did reasonably well.

This is a terrible state of affairs, Mike Freer Conservative MP, for Finchley and Golders Green, stepping down at the next general election, because of fears of his personal safety.

Who'd be an MP? Who'd want to stand?

I thought about this when PM Sunak said Starmer was paid by terrorist groups at PMQs.

Sunak might have just meant to be a facetious dick indulging in theatre, but I heard a dog whistle.

Zonder · 02/02/2024 07:49

The LDs are awful round here. We have a bit of a triangle so it could end up remaining Tory just because everyone else is split between LD and L. But the LD are notorious for putting leaflets through our doors daily with really misleading graphs and information.

BIossomtoes · 02/02/2024 07:55

The South West is traditionally LD territory and they seem to be making a comeback there - there was that spectacular victory in tractor man’s former seat. They’ll definitely benefit from GTTO in the blue wall.

OP posts:
RafaistheKingofClay · 02/02/2024 09:17

That seat is now completely split in 2 incorporating parts of other seats. Could be wrong but I don’t see the cons winning the part the LD MP is standing in.

AdamRyan · 02/02/2024 09:17

Omfg Miriam Cates is on radio 5 going on about "strong borders" and lefties Angry

DuncinToffee · 02/02/2024 09:22

Jenrick on BBC 4 doing the same, broken asylum system, courts, something about priests being too nice Angry

Broken asylum system? Is that Labour's fault? Or perhaps more specifically But Jeremy Corbyn?

Speaking of which, still no sign of jgw1 sadly. I hope things are ok.

AdamRyan · 02/02/2024 09:35

It's a call in on R5, they have another woman doing a great job talking about structural misogyny
I just can't stand miriam cates so I can't listen.

Bloody Tories acting as if they had nothing to do with breaking the asylum system.

DuncinToffee · 02/02/2024 09:36

Me too

Roussette · 02/02/2024 09:41

I agree, I have a lot of time for jgw1

BIossomtoes · 02/02/2024 09:44

I really miss her, these threads are much duller without her. Hope she’s OK.

Wtf is the BBC doing giving Jenrick air time? He’s just a random back bencher now.

IClaudine · 02/02/2024 10:05

I knew they would use the Clapham incident to bash asylum seekers in general, I just knew it. There was a thread running on MN yesterday which was absolutely vile. I think it has been zapped now.

I miss jgw1 too. I hope all is OK.

Efacsen · 02/02/2024 10:19

@IClaudine that thread [deleted/hidden] was utterly appalling - heard PP complain before about the racism on MN but never seen anything as bad previously

DuncinToffee · 02/02/2024 10:21

Glad I missed that one.

pointythings · 02/02/2024 10:22

That thread was dreadful, made me despair of human nature. So many emboldened racists now.

DuncinToffee · 02/02/2024 10:26

Another AI generated MP

https://x.com/GMB/status/1753338007497887941?s=20

Are you seriously suggesting that the Rwanda bill is going to be the cure for all of this?'

@RobbieRinder questions Children's Minister David Johnston after it emerged that the Clapham chemical attack suspect Abdul Shokoor Ezedi was granted asylum in either 2021 or 2022, despite having committed a sexual offence in 2018.

There is a new one in the News section

RafaistheKingofClay · 02/02/2024 11:03

Didn’t see the first one. Briefly opened the second and decided it wasn’t worth the head space.

RafaistheKingofClay · 02/02/2024 12:01

There’s another one. It’s going to be like thread whack a mole today. Hope HQ have got the gin in.
