Home insurance!!!

Just had the renewal for our home insurance and it's doubled. Been on all the comparison sites and it's the same.

BUT as well ... you're getting less for more. Nowhere will cover for storm damage. Roof tiles from wind aren't covered. They're all asking if you're within 400 metres of water. The tiniest little stream counts. But even so, floods aren't covered. You're not covered for trees falling.

After a massive hike in car insurance, I'm getting sick of this.

Have you tried calling them?

With both home and car we managed to get it down to around a 10-20% increase rather than it actually doubling…. It’s going to make next years increase look even worse, but I just called and was completely honest and reasonable “this is ridiculous, I know it’s up across the board and I can’t actually beat it by much by moving elsewhere but is there anything you can do?”

I think I just got lucky with a young sounding chap on the phone who clearly thought that if he chatted to me for long enough he wouldn’t have to pick up the next client (it was five minutes before the helpline closed on a Friday night) and he just applied every discount he said he could get away with.

Seriously? Storm damage is surely one of the biggest risks in my mind. I've no idea whether there's a stream within 400 meters either. How do you know? Google maps?

It came up automatically so they just have something on their system and asked me to confirm they were right, so I checked on Google maps. I know there's lots of floods but honestly it's just a trickle that would struggle to fill a glass.
