Is it true (anecdotally) that if you conceive on ovulation day you are more likely to have a boy?

Interested. Newly pregnant and conceived on ovulation day, I’m 99% sure that was the only possible time. Everyone says boy sperm swim faster. Some articles point towards it too. Is that fact?

I’m not bothered whether we have a boy or girl, but just fascinated to know.

I know I conceived a girl on ovulation day.

AlienBabi · 22/01/2024 11:09

True for me! I conceived a boy on ovulation day and girls on the days surrounding ovulation.

Conceived Dd on ovulation day, am currently 5w with my second who was within 2/3 days of ovulation I think so I’ll be interested to see!

I conceived girls twice on ovulation day. Think it’s all probably nonsense really. I do think some women possibly don’t carry some sexes well. I’ve had a lot of early miscarriages. I wonder if the ones that didn’t stick were boys

Binfire · 22/01/2024 14:45

Yes slightly more boys are born when a mother conceives earlier in their fertile windows, and slightly more girls are born later on in that fertile window but it’s a tiny difference and as said above it’s only observable on a population level.

Beetawix · 22/01/2024 15:14

Thanks everyone. A real mix. @Binfire later in your fertile window is ovulation, right? So most studies seem to prove it’s more common to have a girl around ovulation?

We mildly paid attention to this with our third DC and did indeed get a boy. No idea if it was related to the 'science' or not. Other two were DD's and not sure when in my cycle they were conceived.

NewYear24 · 22/01/2024 15:23

I conceived three boys before my ovulation day.

DramaAlpaca · 22/01/2024 15:24

I'm as certain as I can be that all three of my children were conceived on the day of ovulation. They are all boys.

Bells3032 · 22/01/2024 15:35

More likely but not definite, just slightly increased chance. Y chromosome sperm generally swim quicker and die quicker whereas x sperm tend to rely more on stamina. But you can have a girl conceived on ovulation day. Just depends on the sperm itself

Lavenderandbrown · 22/01/2024 15:56

This worked for me twice. First a girl then a boy. The boy sperm swim quicker but die earlier. So if the egg is already present (have already ovulated) the boy sperm arrives first and fertilizes egg. If no egg they die off. If ovulation occurs later the slower swimming/longer living girl sperm arrive and fertilize the egg.

siblingrevelryagain · 22/01/2024 16:00

Anecdotally I think this happened for me; I did doerm meets egg plan with all 4 pregnancies, 2 x boys, 1 x miscarriage and the 4th was a girl (I didn’t follow any charting or planning as was so desperate to conceive post miscarriage (I got pregnant a short time later, within weeks). I can’t help but think that my particular cycle and method for conception favoured male sperm. Not science though!

I'm pretty sure I conceived on ovulation day with my 3 as I was charting my temperature
All boys
