An ad has come up local to me for home gym equipment. It's a full set of hex dumbbells and other equipment so the price is high, 1100. I've never spent so much money on something via Gumtree, it's always been under 100.
They have the purchase receipts and I can check it out in person. But what happens then? How do you make the payment safely?
Taking cash would seem a bit bonkers, even if the seller is safe what if you got mugged after withdrawing it?
Some people advise exchanging the items in front of CCTV or inside a bank but this will not be possible with gym equipment.
I know where there seller works and this isn't a big city so there is some level of assurance there. They are not totally anonymous and seem genuine.
Has anyone made a large purchase like this via Gumtree or Facebook? How did you handle it and would you do it again that way? Thanks for any help.
