Ear defenders on a flight?

My son has ASD and we're soon about to go on his first flight. He was planning on wearing his ear defenders, but one of my friends said that the pressure during take off / landing could cause his ear drums to burst if wearing ear defenders.
Is there any logic to this or is she talking nonsense?

Check with your GP.

My DS wears special aeroplane ear plugs which regulate the pressure and they have the added bonus of blocking out a lot of noise too. They don’t block out as much as ear defenders.

You need to wear them on take off and before descent, but it’s possible they can be popped out and ear defenders put in whilst cruising altitude.

Ear pressure really affects my DS with autism - as the pressure change freaks him out so I really would consider these. You can get them from pharmacies and they look like small ear plugs.
