She's five months old.

Has a small patch of pinprick bruises / non-blanching rash on her leg. Noticed it when I was dressing her after her bath.

Otherwise seems well in herself, no temperature etc.

Can someone tell me we have done the right thing and that I'm not being silly? Feel so worried. Please no scary stories. She's not our first and we've dealt with non-blanching rashes before. The fear never really goes away.

I'm waiting at home with the three older ones. Can I please have a handhold?

Hand hold here OP.
You've 100% done the right thing, I hope she's ok.

Blahblahblahblahblahurgh · 21/01/2024 20:41

Absolutely done the right thing. Always best to get a rash checked.

WhatFlavourIsIt · 21/01/2024 20:42

It's never wrong to get medical attention for a baby / child. Even if it turns our to be nothing you've done the right thing. Make yourself a nice cuppa & I hope you get some news soon.

With luck, it'll be petechiae and nothing more, as it's a small patch. If so, they'll be able to check her and send her home.

MaidOfSteel · 21/01/2024 20:42

Of course you've done the right thing. We're all here to support you.

minipie · 21/01/2024 20:42

Handhold here. They always say to get the little ones checked if you have any concerns. Hopefully nothing serious xx

Watercolourpapier · 21/01/2024 20:43

One of mine had this at 9mo - long a and e wait to be told it was probably a little virus and as he just had a bath that's probably why his skin looked mottled. Anyway, all was fine and a&e said i did the right thing bringing him in - they're so tiny, they can't tell you how they're feeling. Hope all is well.

Smurf123 · 21/01/2024 20:43

Sending a handhold and some reassurance - my ds gets petechiae non-blanching spots with a virus. My gp sends us to A&E each time. Consultant in A&E has twice sent us home without even doing bloods saying that they weren't going to do bloods for a small cluster of just a few spots in an otherwise well child.
Last time round he then would come out in a few more clusters so he did have bloods done and they were fine. He got antibiotics from gp in case of scarlett fever (he had a different type of rash too) a week into the antibiotics the non blanching spots stopped appearing and touch wood he hasn't had any more since (that was before Christmas)

Thank you all, you're lovely. They've arrived and unfortunately it's busy.

Better safe than sorry x

FoodieToo · 21/01/2024 20:53

I had 5 babies and these kind of things used to pop up for no discernible reason . Their skin is so pale and almost transluscent that any little issue is more apparent . Could almost guarantee it's nothing .

Missingmybabysomuch · 21/01/2024 20:54

Glad they've arrived. Hopefully with a baby they will be triaged fairly quickly. Definitely better to err on the side of caution with little ones. Sending a hand hold 🙂

CormorantStrikesBack · 21/01/2024 20:55

They should see her quickly, they’re in the right place. Dd had a pinprick, non blanching rash and it wasn’t anything sinister so it’s not always meningitis at all.

Naptrappedmummy · 21/01/2024 20:57

Has she had any injections lately? My son developed exactly the same as you describe after his final set. He was absolutely fine but they decided to take him in as a precaution, a few sets of obs and we went home. Hope you’re okay!

She hasn't - not since the end of November. I'm glad all was well with your son x

Hand hold here

pecanpie101 · 21/01/2024 21:02

Has she been in a sling/carrier at all?

No... but I did wonder that too, whether it was something to do with being carried or whatnot. I can't think of an obvious cause for it though.

The rash is usually the last sign so if she's well I imagine it will be good news

yummyscummymummy01 · 21/01/2024 21:05

My son ( 7 years old) had something similar and it was just a viral rash. Scary but we did the same as you ( in his case also coupled with a temperature do doubly scary).

AnneValentine · 21/01/2024 21:07

As she’s no other symptoms it’s unlikely to be anything.

Starlightstarbright3 · 21/01/2024 21:11

Hopefully it is not however never feel bad for checking out something you are worried about with a baby .

mango0101 · 21/01/2024 21:12

My son had something that sounds similar - it was from the car seat! The fact your baby is well I would say is a very positive sign xxx thinking of you and you have absolutely done the right thing!!! X

Igglepiggleandhisboat · 21/01/2024 21:13

It’s never wrong to get them checked and healthcare professionals never mind. It will most likely be nothing but you’ve done the right thing! Xx

Snowydaysfaraway · 21/01/2024 21:14

1 of my dc got a rash with every single virus he got.. Terrifying every bloody time...
