Concert crowd etiquette

Posted before but didn't get many responses. Inspired by something someone said to me just before Christmas.

Let's say a gig is taking place in a large tent. Does queue etiquette still apply once the "doors" have been opened? For example, if you arrived later than most, would it be cheeky to sit down at the front?

music gig?
standing only?

HappyHamsters · 21/01/2024 15:58

If you turn up late the seats might all be gone but if its a free for all you sit where you can

SweatyGibbon · 21/01/2024 16:01

Sorry, didn't explain it well. In the specific example someone discussed with me, the crowd were sat down, but not in actual seats if you see what I mean. However, the general question could still apply to standing.

so free seating

presumably there was space at the front to sit or did they push people off already sitting there?

HappyHamsters · 21/01/2024 16:15

Is it just an empty tent and you sit on the ground, if so you just find a spot but it's pretty rude to push past people

I don't know exactly, from what my friend said they walked down the side and sat down at the front.

so not reserved seating

and there were seats / space available

all good

regenerate · 21/01/2024 16:21

presumably the seats they sat on were empty

so i really can’t see even a question mark about it

regenerate · 21/01/2024 16:22

this is the second time you’ve started a thread about it

and you heard the story from your friend a month ago

goodness it really has interested you!

Gymmum82 · 21/01/2024 16:25

If there was space then it’s fine. There’s no etiquette with free seating

DesignerStars · 21/01/2024 17:06

If it's unreserved seating then it's fine to sit wherever. You'll probably find that the people at the front of the queue take the seats at the front anyway. I would just sit in whatever was the best available seat.

Imjustahappyhappydog · 21/01/2024 18:01

If it's a free for all it's custom to stand wherever you like and if you want to move forwards you do so politely, if you want to protect your space you stick your elbows out.

SweatyGibbon · 21/01/2024 18:19

@DesignerStars I'm inclined to agree. I thought my friend's viewpoint was a bit po-faced, but it's curious how people from the same country have different views on things like this.
