Volkswagen Golf - 1.4 petrol vs 1.6 diesel

Hi guys!

I'm looking at a VW Golf 2019/2020 plate. Test drove a 1.6 TDI yesterday and was a little disappointed with the lack of power when I put my foot down, even in lower gears.

For context I currently have a 2015 Tiguan 2.0 TDI so am used to some responsiveness when I put my foot down.

Does anyone how the 1.4 petrol fares in comparison to the 1.6 diesel? I just want something that can overtake with a little oomph without having to drop gear etc.

My brother is big in to VW and advised a 1.4 TSI which we found could give my 2.0l MX5 a run for its money.

Thanks @Houseplanter . I think I'll test drive one. Otherwise I'll be looking for a 2.0 TDI but there are fewer around.

I have the ordinary 1.4 petrol. I don’t think you would like it.
