We arrived at about 10am, and they opened the doors at 12 and we ran to the very front. Also did this in 1985 for Live Aid. Live aid was such a hot day, they were spraying the front of the audience with hoses! On the FM concert we had a 2 litre bottle bottle of Coke we took in with a lot of vodka in it. We had no getting out of where we were. And had to make that bottle last 12 hours, and didn’t go to the loo all that time either! I can last an hour without going for a wee now!!

Just watching the doc and saw he donated all the profits from Jesus to a Child to Childline. I didn't know that. What a terrible loss when he died.

Triphazard22 · 20/01/2024 23:27

I feel very emotional watching him. Amazing talent and such a loss to not only the music world but humanity too.

Motnight · 20/01/2024 23:27

Such a beautiful human being. So talented and generous.

Hakunatomato · 20/01/2024 23:30

He was such a generous man. He was watching Richard and Judy one morning and there was a lady on there who couldn’t afford more fertility treatment. He rang the production office and offered to pay but did not want publicity. I do believe it resulted in a baby.

dyspraadhauwtaf63 · 20/01/2024 23:32

Yes agree with all of you…an absolutely beautiful guy inside and out. George was two weeks older than me 🤦‍♀️Every song makes me feel so sad but happy at the same time…we were so lucky to have such an amazing singer in our lives.Xx

This is so strange - this thread was originally posted months ago and has no reappeared with today's dates - how odd!

Watching now.
A genuinely good man, and a fab singer. A real loss :(

BestIsWest · 20/01/2024 23:35

The man was a genius.
He was two months younger than me. So much talent.

Hakunatomato · 20/01/2024 23:36

If he had a concert he would routinely give tickets to nursing staff at the local hospital. Such a kind man. Such a loss, all the songs that now remain unwritten…

TooBigForMyBoots · 20/01/2024 23:43

I have loved George from before I was 10. Before I could afford to buy Smash Hits, I listened repeatedly and transcribed all his songs.

I still love him. He was a gift and I am grateful to have shared time with him.💞

DillDanding · 20/01/2024 23:47

We’ve been watching this tonight. I was never a fan but recognise he was a great talent and seemingly, a lovely man. The Queen concert footage was fantastic.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 20/01/2024 23:52

I don't remember a time when I didn't love him or his music. Such a talent and a generous man.

I loved his mention of being a "hungry little schoolgirls' pride an joy". He was mine. When my sister ripped a 2" gash in my Wham poster after a fight, I snipped her Crystal Barbie outfit. cut the cord on the Barbie townhouse lift and cut every Barbie shoe I could find in half.

When I was a goth teen and no one was dancing at the indie disco I'd request "I'm Your Man" or "Edge of Heaven" in return for getting up and dancing like on my own. Sometimes it worked.Grin

I remember seeing him onstage with Queen singing Somebody To Love and breaking my heart.

He was such a beautiful, talented singer and songwriter. I really hoped he'd get a Happy Ever After.Sad
