Why can't I function as a normal human being?

I am always messing things up! Carrying a tray of water bottles, every single one falls. Blew up balloons, every single one burst. Managed to hit a car when parking on the street where there was space for about 3 buses. Always messing simple things up at work. Can't put pictures up straight or do the most simple practical things. What is wrong with me?!?

Dyspraxia? Carelessness? Invisible tiny gremlins dedicated to fucking with you?

TipulophobiaIsReal · 20/01/2024 22:38

For myself, I go with the gremlins theory. Seems the most plausible.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 20/01/2024 22:38

I came on to say Dyspraxia possibly, but now i definitely think it’s the gremlins. Little fuckers.

Mushroomwithaview · 20/01/2024 22:39

You might need to slow down?
I made a massive, monumental effort to slow the fuck down and it helped.

BreakfastAtMilliways · 20/01/2024 22:39

Dyspraxia possibly? Eye conditions that affect your spatial perception, like lazy eye or a big difference in acuity between one eye and the other, can also cause problems like this.

ETA you don’t say how old you are but your vision can change in midlife, so if this is a recent rather than lifelong problem it may be wise to get your eyes checked.

sendismylife · 20/01/2024 22:42

Are you me? When I was training to be a primary teacher many years ago, the PE lecturers wanted to know how I hadn’t been diagnosed wdyspraxia. Still not sought diagnosis. Now, henceforth I shall blame gremlins.

Doing things properly. I'm embarrassed about the amount of time it took me to accept that "just doing it" often gets a crap result!

A tray of water bottles is always going to be risky - they aren't terribly stable items. Put fewer on the tray or - better - carry them in something rather than on a flat surface.

Balloons - you over-inflated them. Simple.

Parking - gets worse the more you think you're bad at parking 😜 I took a lesson purely for parking, even though I was already capable. The point was that, for every parking situation, I now had a specific memory of performing that manoeuvre with the instructor.

Pictures - use a spirit level (the phone app's good enough for most jobs).

Having the right tools and instructions on how to use them is 99% of it!

Gremlins. Wee scunners they are!

Melrose86 · 20/01/2024 22:53

Gremlins is a possibility! Its not a recent problem, I've always been useless at most things. Interesting you say about eyes. I've had glasses since age 4 for astigmatism. Worn contacts for years now but my vision definitely isn't the best! I've parked in the same place for 10 years so no idea how I managed to be so careless all of a sudden!
