The genre of Northern soul records and dancing has been with me for 40yr plus. I'm always keen to hear stuff I've not heard before. Some of my faves.
Betty lavette.. Check on what my condition my condition is in.
The vibrations.. Cause your mines.
The velvellettes.. These things will keep me loving you.
Martha and the vandellas.. One way out.

Open the Door to Your Heart by Daryl Banks

I have hundreds of northern soul 7 inches that belonged to my dad. I don’t know most of them. There’s no Do I Love You by Frank Wilson though, unfortunately.

If you get stuck identifying records go onto soulsource people will be happy to help you and give valuations, labels, condition, original pressings are key to value and you don't want to get ripped off if you sell. Records can go for big money.

Nothing but a heartache by the flirtations.

Also love the northern soul version of Frankie Valli - The Night. Seems like a completely different song to their original album version.

My DH got me into northern soul, it never fails to perk me up!

I don't know a lot of Northern Soul songs but The Night is one of my favourite over all genres. One of those songs I will stop and listen to, if I can.

Oh, thanks for that. I’m not selling they have sentimental value and I like them. there’s quite a few American imports and white labels amongst them. I’d be interested to find out what some of them are.

I collect other records so I know a bit about pressings, grading, valuation and all that jazz.

Oh gosh I'm 65 and used to go to Wigan casino.
I also went to the Twisted Wheel in Manchester...and soul events up and down the UK every weekend.
Weekenders and all nighters..l went to the Wigan casinos 35th Anniversary..they held it in the shopping mall where the old Casino stood.. Flirtations live on stage and hundreds of us dancing outside boots and marks and Spencer etc..
I've enclosed photo of my badge..
Dancing was passion and I'm on a good few videos at various events.. especially The whitby northern soul weekenders..
Sadly l had an horrific accident and broke both hips and pelvis and that put a stop to my dancing .
Too many favourite songs but here is a few.

Here l go again ..Archie Bell and the Drells.

Time Will Pass You By" by Tobi Legend, "Long After Tonight Is All Over" by Jimmy Radcliffe, and "I'm on My Way" by Dean Parrish.

Do l love you.. Frank Wilson.
I have hundreds of Vinyl and still collecting.

On Broadway, George Benson

I used to work in live events and worked on hundreds of shows with global artists. But this show was one of my wtaf moments - insane to hear it live

longtompot · 20/01/2024 22:50

I utterly love this song, but even more so after dancing with my cousin at his wedding a couple of years ago. He died 18 months ago, so even more special now

Any Northern Soul fans should listen to John Kane's Northern Soul on BBC local radio 7pm Saturday evening repeated on Wednesdays or BBC sounds. Also gives details of meetings, events etc. Takes me back to my youth, it's brilliant.

Fred Hughes - I Keep Tryin'

Have you seen the YT video of Edwin Starr singing Agent Double-0 Soul, on Hollywood A Go-Go? At 2:40 into it, there's a guy in the audience doing what look like Northern Soul moves. And there's a Supremes video with some in - I forget which one but it's filmed at a picnic type set up outside somewhere, with people dancing. Is that the origin of it?

Out of My Mind - RAIN with Charity Brown

12CatsAndCounting · 21/01/2024 01:31

Just been driving home listening to Northern Soul, my DH has hundreds of records and has put lots on a USB stick in my car. Tonight I was singing along to The Drifter by Ray Pollard & Seven Day Lover by James Fountain.

What a brilliant thread— so many amazing songs

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 21/01/2024 03:41

I know it’s been covered and sampled to death in recent years but I’d have to add Beggin’ by The Four Seasons to the list.

MmedeGouge · 21/01/2024 05:44

Under My Thumb
