Smol...talk to me 🙂

Does anyone use smol (specifically non bio)

I have a voucher for free first pack and half price second pack which seems pretty good value.

Are they worth it full price?

What's the appeal of them? We already use eco friendly stuff (method) but I suppose getting them in the post would save me a job although we never seem to run out as it is.

What are your experiences? Thanks

I used to use their bio laundry pods, but my machine ended up being very smelly so I had to go back to using powder from the supermarket. I don't know what their other products are like.

BrennanBooth · 20/01/2024 17:10

We get the dishwasher tablets which are very good! Haven’t tried any of the others though!

Same! My clothes would come out smelling musty, the taken too long to dry smell, especially jersey jumpers. There would be at least 1 item of clothing that I'd have to put back in the wash because it smelled. I've gone back to wash powder and not had a single problem with smelly washing!

Fruitpecker · 20/01/2024 17:12

I've tried most of their products. Dishwasher tablets are good as is the fabric conditioner because it doesn't gunk up the drawer like traditional stuff does. I also like their kitchen spray.

Laundry pods were a no for me as the pods often didn't dissolve properly on a rapid wash or 30 degree wash. They'd dissolve enough to wash the clothes but I'd find slimy residue in the drum from the pod. Also had issue with smells from the drum so back to powder for me as never get drum smells with powder.

blankittyblank · 20/01/2024 17:13

I've used these for ages and have no issues with them. They have a really subtle smell too, which is lovely when you've hung the washing outside to dry. I've heard they aren't that good for the environment though (apart from reducing packaging) in case that was a pull.

Lolloped · 20/01/2024 17:13

Didn’t work for me. I prefer washing powder. Most people seem to love it but my clothes came out smelling unwashed. Followed all their advice on cleaning my machine and washing smaller loads. The dishwasher tablets were rubbish too. The fabric conditioner was ok at best. We use the multisurface spray and I’m happy with that for daily wiping but would need something stronger for proper cleaning if the cleaner didn’t bring her own products.

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 20/01/2024 17:21

I tried their laundry tablets, but they didn’t work well on getting stains out or leaving the laundry smelling clean. I had maybe nine or so for something like £1 but I had to rewash everything in Ariel so there was no point continuing to use it, let alone buying some more.

SunflowerSeeds123 · 20/01/2024 17:23

I had been falling for the IG ads so everyone's insight has been illuminating. Thanks!

Decafflatteplease · 20/01/2024 17:25

Thanks all, might just try it for the free ones 😁 is it easy to cancel?

the multipurpose spray is really good and it makes sense to have a reusable bottle and a tablet - I hate throwing away those plastic trigger spray bottles!

the laundry tablets are a bit meh. Not amazing and agree powder is probably better for the machine.

Ladyj84 · 20/01/2024 17:30

Ok stopped using and went back to supermarket horrible smelling clothes after a bit

scrunchmum · 20/01/2024 17:32

We use dishwasher tablets and laundry pods. Both are good, especially the dishwasher tabs. I agree with others that the pods don't dissolve properly on 30deg wash, I don't notice any smell but we do use 2 pods in a wash due to hard water.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 20/01/2024 18:47

We have used the non-bio laundry pods and dishwasher tablets for probably 6 years, and have recently started using the dissolvable spray tablets and the dishcloths.

No complaints about any of them.
We do have very soft water though, which might help.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 20/01/2024 18:52

We used the laundry pods but stopped because we really struggled to get the packaging opened! So we gave up. This was about 3 years ago, their packaging might have improved since then.

We switched to EarthBreeze laundry sheets - a bit like blotting paper, they come through the post in cardboard envelopes and are brilliant.

FrenchandSaunders · 20/01/2024 18:58

I’ve had them for a while and liked them but the washed clothes don’t smell as nice lately. Not unwashed like pp but not as fresh.

TheTripThatWasnt · 20/01/2024 19:03

I've been using them for years, and love them! None of the issues with smelly clothes that are mentioned (and I have 5 lots of smelly running kit and 3 lots of gym kit a week). I use an eco programme which is about 2.5hrs, so not a quick/short wash.

I love the dishwasher tabs too - they work as well as anything else I've tried.

I love the convenience of them coming in the post (and it's very easy to amend your subscription), the minimal (environmentally friendly) packaging, and the fact the washing doesn't stink of some nasty artificial smell (I can't stand most detergents for that reason).

NImumconfused · 20/01/2024 19:10

We use the dishwasher tablets and the nonbio pods, and are quite happy with them, even on a cool wash. V soft water area like pp above though, so maybe that makes a difference?

NeverMindIGuess · 20/01/2024 19:11

I've used most of their products. Their washing pods don't have any smell to them though and I like my washing to smell nice. All the other products are good though, especially the cleaning spray.
Just an FYI, Method got brought out a couple years ago and lost their high eco rating.
Very easy to cancel Smol though or change your subscription though.

zebranotzeebra · 20/01/2024 19:13

The dishwasher tabs are great. Very easy to cancel or amend delivery dates

No it's not improved! We decant them into a glass clip too container as I can't figure it out at all

LaviniasBigBloomers · 20/01/2024 19:28

I think they're a great company, use the dishwashing tabs and the spray cleaners. Unfortunately DH is allergic to the laundry pods so we had to stop using them, but I had no complaints about them when I was using them.

PlateIets · 20/01/2024 19:29

We use the sprays and dishwasher tablets. I like both. We had ongoing problems with the laundry tabs staining clothes though. Smol claimed we weren't putting them in right and also that the stains come out - I tried probably a dozen times on different items and they definitely don't. As far as I could tell, we were putting them in correctly, but even if we weren't, it shouldn't be that hard and shouldn't cause staining! Our washing machine (pretty new, decent brand) does a slow turn of the drum before it starts and we suspect that was the problem.

NonSequentialRhubarb · 20/01/2024 21:21

We used to use them and were pleased with them. But then our washing began to smell funny. No amounts of cleaning cycles on the machine helped. We switched to Surf washing powder and have never had the issue again.

Same with their dishwasher tablets. We were happy but noticed that really tough stains or burned on bits never came off. We switched to a name brand tablet and now everything comes out sparkling.

Never had an issue with their washing up liquid though.

mnahmnah · 20/01/2024 21:25

I love the laundry pods. Used them for years and never had any of the problems PP have. I love the smell of them, they wash everything well and good for my son’s eczema. The app is easy to use to change postage date etc. vegan, cruelty free, eco friendly. Nothing not to love.
