What kind of person gets kicks from a troll post

maybejustonemoretime · 20/01/2024 12:10

I was commenting on a post this morning where a woman spoke about the fact her two month old baby's father had no contact with the baby and denied knowing her, it went on and the OP seemed vulnerable and spoke about sometimes thinking about having the baby adopted amongst other things.
It has now been taken down as a troll post.

I can understand some deviant person getting kicks from writing a sexually themed post and getting off on women responding disclosing personal information etc but in this instance WTF?

Like I was imagining some woman in bed with her OH writing it and finding it all hilarious adding new details and replies but honestly what is funny about making a really tragic story and genuine and concerned people trying to offer help ?

I suppose you might find some of the nasty/ judgmental replies funny but what am I missing here ?

I think some people crave attention and sympathy, to the extent that they will make shit up completely to get it.

GalileoHumpkins · 20/01/2024 12:14

Trolls want a reaction, they don't care how they get it.

x2boys · 20/01/2024 12:19

Attention
There are also.the threads that have some truth In them but the Op.gets carried away with all the posters asking for updates and massively embellish, s the thread for attention.

gamerchick · 20/01/2024 12:20

I'm quite glad it was a troll. Was a smite worried for her baby on the sleeping apart thread.

Disturbia81 · 20/01/2024 12:22

OP. There's nowt as queer as folk. The sooner you realise there are many fucked up people in this world, the more you can just roll your eyes at it and laugh!

BarelyLiterate · 20/01/2024 12:22

Generally, trolls are amusing themselves by provoking reactions in others, the stronger the better. Wind ‘em up & watch ‘em go.

Alternatively, they enjoy high lighting & mocking what they see as hypocrisy, double standards, sanctimonious virtue-signalling etc etc. I have been known to do a bit of this myself…

LolaSmiles · 20/01/2024 12:25

Grief vultures who get a kick out of people sharing their emotional burdens and experiences.

Desperate for attention and have so little going on that their only way to get it is to make stuff up on the internet.

It's why MN have sometimes posted where there's been doubt about trolls but not enough to close threads that they advise people don't give more of themselves than they can afford to.

Aylestone · 20/01/2024 12:27

I didn’t see that one, but I know for a fact that people have been reported for being trolls and had their thread taken down when they were 100% genuine. I was temporarily banned years once after trying to defend myself against a racist attack on here. I called mn disgraceful for allowing the post to stand, which mn took offence at and banned me instead of her. When I later wrote an (admittedly dramatic) thread where I was hospitalised with my baby after catching an std off my partner who was cheating, I was called a troll, my thread was reported and it was taken down with the caption ‘troll thread from previously banned poster’. You really do get kicked while your down on this site, racially abused, cheated on and hospitalised with an std and I got torn apart and blocked for ‘trolling’

Sugarfish · 20/01/2024 12:28

Some people just like attention
Others like to wind people up. I think Mumsnet gets targeted a lot because you do get some posters who respond with a lot of anger or other emotions. To be honest sometimes I see a reply and think it’s a bit much, but then I think about it some more and realise they most likely have their reasons because of going through some shit themselves.

WinterSnowFox · 20/01/2024 12:31

Oh I seen that and it’s the same thread I thought it was it was posted last night about her reaching out to the family of her newborn baby? What a strange thing to troll about and to answer PP I’m sure some people do get banned accidentally but come on I reckon that’s a very very small minority of people! Mostly it’s just a troll 🤷‍♀️
