Dd is Autistic. She has a soft toy (ST) that she's had since age 2. She's now 19 & it still forms a part of her daily life. She uses it to 'speak': it has a big personality (which is the things she 'would like to say but doesnt' I think?) It helps her to process her daily life. She is a great ventroloquist now & is often very clever & funny. I've never discouraged her as she clearly finds it helpful & a stress relief & its something that is private within the family.

Last night I had a dream. The ST was 'stuck in an they were after him' situation.
To escape the ST wrapped itself in lengths of fabric like bandages, with messages written on them. It elaborately wrapped itself over & over up to the ceiling.
When the baddies got in, the unwrapping & reading would give it chance to run.

Dd was to film this as a documentary & this was to be CRUCIAL to her future career & happiness (she's at a crunch point right now).

I think the ST represents young Dd's hopes (before School & College crushed them). So why is she the one filming the ST escaping (to future happiness)?

Any thoughts anyone ? (or it will go round & round in MY head all day!) ?

Wondering if the filming could be something to do with you dd needing awareness. Has you dd ‘tied herself in knots’/ruminated? The writing maybe represents her talking herself out of the knots/rumination. Words of encouragement she’s given to herself. The filming suggesting she needs to be aware that she has felt anxious so that she can set herself free?

Do you worry that your DD will have to mask her autism to be successful in her career? The toy being wrapped up sounds like it could represent this.

@KittySmith1986 Dd has a dx of Clinical Anxiety so yes she ruminates a LOT.
I wonder if the words on the fabric are things she needs to UNwrap herself from (ie all her worries & 'I'm not good enough' feelings - which are many & varied?

@TheLogicalSong Dd feels she must 'mask' to simply survive life I think?

Thank you both for your thoughts - it's very helpful - it was SO vivid!

I see dreams as your brain's way of processing things, often by translating worries into a visual image or sometimes, the subconscious will link your present worries to similar worries you've had in the past (but might have forgotten about) which is why people and situations that are long past often pop up in a dream.

It's good to embrace your dreams by working out what your brain is trying to tell you. I would suggest your brain is helping you work out, at a subconscious level, the best ways to support your DD with the 'crunch time' she is experiencing, so you may find the right words and actions come to you more easily.

@TheLogicalSong YES - Thank you ! x

I was trying to puzzle out the bit where I felt Dd was the ST but also then came to film the ST 'wonderful escape into new opportunities' too. The brain is odd..
