What do you do with mystery person booting your door?

We have been having a lot of banging at our door, when we go outside no one there.

The other night when putting baby to bed someone booted our front door, it shook very forceful. My husband went to door but no one there.

There is a boot print and dent on our front door.

I've taken a photo, but what do you do?

I might ask neighbours if they have had any disturbance, but what else do you do?

Do i need to worry?

Get a ring doorbell so that you have footage?

Yes i was thinking of that, I'll order from amazon today. Does it sound like random grumpy gits or being targeted? Its stressing me out not knowing why the agression 😅

I have sent the photo to landlord and hes given approval for the ring doorbell

I would either think someone off their head or got confused which door, I would move on but if happens again call the police

Does your door open directly on to the street?

Does your door open directly on to the street?

Yes but its a quiet street, like not a main one. It was also at 8pm at night so no kids around. I was worried it could be neighbour as the door you can see whole street but by the time we opened door couldnt see a soul.

Put up a ring door bell and some real or fake cameras in the window. It highly unlikely to be anything really sinister, probably just an idiot who finds it fun or a weird neighbour.

Thanks everyone. Thats a horrible trend. Damaging peoples property and it really upsets the LO :(

My parents had this - it's been a fairly common thing in their West Sussex village for at least two years, probably prompted by the TikTok craze. Kids, around 14-15, boots random doors and run off. Some people have had doors damaged, some have had it on and off for months - old people, people with young kids etc. Police have been called multiple times, there is CCTV footage of the boys doing it, they know who it is. But, because they're minors, nothing is done. My parents were offered a written apology from the boys! Sorry that's not more optimistic - hope it doesn't turn out the same way where you are.

We had this. A tik tok trend would make sense - we had young teenagers around 8/9pm. Husband ran put and told them to stop and at the very least close the gate before our vicious dog escapes (cockapoo)

BringMeSunshine48 · 20/01/2024 10:08

Possibly meant for the ex tenant 🤔 when did you move in?

Goldenbrowntexturelikesun · 20/01/2024 11:40

A group of young lads (around 15-20) have been going around our local villages doing this (it has been picked up on several ring doorbells).

It has been going on since last summer. They did this to a 92 year old neighbours property last month, the footprint was massive so its not small kids doing this.
Last week one actually knocked down a door off its hinges and onto the poor lady who lived inside the property.

Not sure if it’s some nationwide ‘trend’ or you are in our area but whatever it is and whoever is doing this needs to be stopped before they hurt someone.

My Dad (77) had this happen just before Christmas. It was around 7 or 8pm. He has a ring doorbell and he sent me the footage to look at. It was two teenage boys, around 16/17 I'd guess. He has a downstairs neighbour and they kicked both doors at the same time.
It was DS's GF who told us about the tiktok challenge.
My Dad contacted the police and they collected the footage from him, but he hasn't heard anything since.
He's in North London.

Sugarfish · 20/01/2024 12:45

There is a trend to kick doors? What the hell is wrong with people???
I hate all these “challenges”

Balloonhearts · 20/01/2024 12:47

If its a regular thing I'd lie in wait in an upstairs window with a bucket of old chip oil.

If not then I think you can only really get a camera and report if it happens again.
