Cordless vacuums. Recommend me yours?

Looking for a cordless vacuum. Would prefer it not to have a wall mounted charger like the Dyson so was looking at the Shark with a small battery. Can anyone tell me if it's any good or if there are others I should look at? Thanks.

This thread is a little old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for vacuum cleaner recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best cordless vacuum cleaner page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

You don’t actually have to wall mount it btw! You can just plug it in like a shark. 100s of threads on here dyson vs shark.

I have an old Dyson which we charge off the wall but the charging unit is large and annoying. The shark one seems to have a small charging unit.

I have a Dyson but I never use the charging unit. Just plug it in anywhere.

I bought a Samsung. It plugs in anywhere. All good.👍

ApolloandDaphne · 20/01/2024 09:25

Thank you. I didn't realise newer models could just be plugged in to charge. It's not very clear on the blurb.

I'm also keen to know how long the battery lasts in different models.

I recently bought this one sharkclean.co.uk/product/shark-stratos-anti-hair-wrap-plus-cordless-vacuum-single-battery-iz400uk-zidIZ400UK
I do like it but although it states up to 60 mins battery, in reality it only does 1/2 house on one charge.
To me that's a good excuse for a brew whilst it charges 😁

I have that Shark and it's great.

Not sure if it - or indeed any cordless ones - are enough to clean an entire house.

@ApolloandDaphne it may be worth listening to this short podcast about vacuum cleaners as they look at the pros and cons of cordless in consultation with a Which? consultant who mentions some best buys: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001smmb?partner=uk.co.bbc&origin=share-mobile

I was looking at a cheap £65 cordless on Amazon. Do you all think the cheap ones are crap?

Hocuspocus99 · 20/01/2024 09:52

To be honest look at a corded shark one , otherwise you will be disappointed with one you have to charge , it’s not enough to do a full house clean and to be honest pick up is not great either . I’m a cleaner by the way and have used 2 different models in clients houses on consecutive days this week and both are pretty average . The best cleaner by far is a Sebo, no it’s not cordless , no it’s not pretty however it does the job that you need it for .

Bringonthesunforthewashing · 20/01/2024 09:52

I have a dyson, it’s crap!

ApolloandDaphne · 20/01/2024 09:55

We have a corded one. This is just for in between vacuums.

Onehappymam · 20/01/2024 09:58

I think all Sharks come with the option of a double battery, so one charges in the docking station while you use the other one. When it runs out, you switch it.

We have a 4 bed house and pets. I’ve never been in the situation where one both batteries are dead.

I’m lazy and cannot be bothered plugging in a vacuum cleaner, but since getting a cordless one I use it everyday.

BalloonsInWater · 20/01/2024 10:01

Pleased with shark iz 300 , battery lasts ages imo but I'm not very thorough.

2024newme · 20/01/2024 10:05

I have the newish Henry cordless and like it. It lasts 45 - 75mins ish depending on which setting you have it on. I tend to have it on the most powerful and it does a great job on carpets and rugs so not enough to do whole house top to bottom in one go but enough for in between “big” cleans.

SnapdragonToadflax · 20/01/2024 10:05

I have a Shark cordless IZ202UKT - gets great reviews. It has been utterly shit. The suction went after a few months, it was still under warranty so I reported it and they sent a new head. A year and a half later and the suction has gone again. I've just bought a Miele Cat and Dog because I'm so fucking fed up with the Shark.

It does work ok as a handheld device, but that's it. Would not recommend.

SnapdragonToadflax · 20/01/2024 10:07

Also my cleaner said she has another client whose Shark stopped picking up. It seems to be a common problem after they work brilliantly initially.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/01/2024 10:12

I love my Dyson. I've never used the wall charger as I have nowhere for it to go.

3catsandcounting · 20/01/2024 10:13

I have a cordless Shark. My first one (bought 2 years ago) stopped working recently. The part needed was discontinued so Customer Service replaced the whole machine and upgraded it to the Anti-Hair Wrap model.

They provided one battery pack (my previous 2 packs don't fit so are redundant) 2 battery packs are really necessary for me, but I'm reluctant to pay a further £100 for an extra one!

I'm not sure I'd ever have another one. Its forever getting clogged, something stuck in the roller, etc.

nowtygaffer · 20/01/2024 10:15

I have a cordless shark. Like previous poster I am forever unblocking the roller. I wouldn't recommend it.

wwyd2021medicine · 20/01/2024 10:21

I have Sharks with double battery chargers.
But my sharks are hopeless at picking up 'bits' on hard floors - they will pick them up but deposit them back on the floor when machine turned off so I keep the motor running and tip the machine upside down and take it to the bin to empty the bits.
The Dyson doesn't have this problem but I think the shark better on carpets.
