Constant cough and sleep deprivation

I am on my last legs. I have had a non stop cough for over a week and it means I don’t sleep at night. I’ve tried sleeping almost upright and still can’t sleep for coughing. DD had this first so of course I was already exhausted before mine started because of getting up for her in the night. Today after another bad night I am just so exhausted. I’m off work today as I just can’t cope. I’m going to rest all day today. Anything I can do to shift this quickly? I’ve tried Vicks on the feet, sleeping upright, cough sweets, cough medicine, honey, lemon, lots of drinks. Aarrgh!! What else can I try to sleep and what can I try during the day to help me?

Sorry to hear you are suffering. I usually suffer for ages with coughs and always worse at night. I have asthma too and find it can quickly develop into a chest infection.

I have found that keeping an eye on it and going to the gp if I start to develop phlegm as it usually signals the start of an infection for me, and they have given me antibiotics in the past which help. Other things that help are using an inhaler, taking steam inhalation either from a bowl with boiling water and breathing in the vapour with a towel over your head, and all the other things you have mentioned above. Lots of fluids and rest, soups, teas, coffee, hot honey lemons.

Hope you feel better soon, it can be really draining. ❤️‍🩹
