Do you wake in the night

I don't mean if you have a baby /toddler you have to get up to.

Do you wake up for no reason. I wake up around 6 times a night I fall asleep normally 5/10 mins later . It has no pattern I could be asleep for a couple of hours then wake up. Or or I could wake up 10-20 mins after falling to sleep.

Yes, I always wake for the toilet during the night. I usually fall back asleep.

If I wake any other time , I 5hink I've probably heard a noise that has woken me

I wake probably 5-6 times a night and get up to wee at least twice. So irritating but I take medication that makes me pee so that can't be helped.

Whiskers4 · 19/01/2024 10:08

Yes, I woke up about five times last night, admittedly one occasion was DH getting up. It's got worse as I've got older, luckily I'm not too tired in the day.

According to my watch I wake several times; though usually only for a minute or two, sometimes I am awake for 10+ minutes. Recently it's been so cold that I've been unable to get back to sleep until I've put some socks or a thicker top on.

I differ from a lot of other posters on here- I consider it a bad night if I sleep through, and have not had any wakeful time to enjoy the experience of being cosy and resting in bed!

I feel the same way. I don't mind waking up at 2am, it means I can full appreciate that I've got another 4.5hrs in bed.

I always wake once, normally around 4am and I’m usually awake for 1-2 hrs. I just can’t get back to sleep once awake. I do manage to get back to sleep and I don’t start work until 11 am so can get another hour or so when I do get back to sleep. I’m blaming it on being perimenopausal.

CroccyWoccy · 19/01/2024 11:09

Very rare for me to sleep through without waking at all. Mostly I get back to sleep quickly but sometimes awake for an hour or more. Last night I woke about every hour but fell asleep again within about 5mins each time.

SleepingStandingUp · 19/01/2024 11:15

I wake up to pee. I can pee like four times between 11.30 and get up time. I think after years of broken sleep with kids, and popping to the loo whilst I'm up, I've broken my bladder-sense

RosemaryDill · 19/01/2024 11:25

Since the first time I was pregnant in 1995 I have never slept through the night.
You do get used to it and I really don't mind if I fall asleep again ok. On a good night I wake twice for the bathroom and fall back asleep instantly.
On a bad night I am awake for hours.

Some of this may be epigenetic - if your mother or mother's mother lived through a period of extreme danger then her decedents will be primed to be more vigilant at nights - this is common in the decedents of holocaust survivors, for example.

Epigenetics makes you more suited to the environment your mother/ mother's mother/ mother's mother's mother lived in

I read somewhere once that many moons ago it was normal for people to wake in the middle of the night and just get up and go about their business. After an hour or two they would go back to sleep for a few more hours. It was very interesting.

I wake for various reasons sometimes but menopause was the worst time. Nearly broke me. I'm much better now.

Vinorosso74 · 19/01/2024 11:29

Yes. However, I am in medical menopause due to having hormone positive breast cancer. I have ovarian suppression injections which put me in menopause then tablets which stop my body making any more oestrogen (and makes me feel ancient some days).
I don't have a pattern to my waking. Could have a couple of nights where I only wake once (a good night) usually 4/4.30 then others where I'm awake several times.

thirdistheonewiththehairychest · 19/01/2024 11:44

The only reason I ever wake up in the night is when I'm sleepwalking and come round wondering where the heck I am.

Escapetunnelalmostcomplete · 19/01/2024 11:51

I find if I have been drinking alcohol I will often wake in the early hours and have no chance of getting back to sleep. If I haven't been drinking I very rarely wake up in the night.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 19/01/2024 14:14

Always between 3-4 am
I have done since DS1 was born and he's now 30
I don't need to get up for a reason like a wee.
