Ruptured Ectopic Pregnancy Question

Yesterday I was in hospital having surgery for a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. I’m home now. Reading my discharge letter it says I need to go back to hospital in a week for a HCG blood test. They probably told me at the time but I wasn’t taking it in. Why would I need this and what does it mean if the HCG doesn’t go down? (Which is I assume what I’m looking for). I keep replaying the conversation with the Doctor this morning who said “my ovaries looked good and that he hadn’t seen anything sinister”. What kind of sinister thing would you see? I don’t know why I’m repeating this on a loop in my head and have latched onto these details. Any ideas?

I’m so sorry this happened to you. I had a ruptured ectopic and found the whole experience so scary and overwhelming it was hard to take everything in.

The pregnancy test is simply to make sure they removed everything and that there is no further risk. It’s just to make sure everything is now OK.

I’m not 100% sure what he meant, but I think the dr was cack-handedly trying to assure you that a. you’re ovaries are fine and there wasn’t anything that would further compromise your fertility, and b. there wasn’t any obvious underlying reason why this happened.

All the best for a speedy recovery 💐
