Red Sea - safe for holiday now?

We have a family holiday booked in the Eyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm in Feb half term.

Now the UK has joined US attacks in the Red Sea and the Houtis have sworn retaliation against the US/UK.

I feel worried and want to cancel but we would lose significant money as the Gov travel advice still says it’s safe so insurance won’t pay out. DH keen to go. Am I being stupid? Would others travel there now? I’m aware tourists have been targeted in the region in the past.

I'm going to Sharm next month, I love it there. We have no hesitations. The conflict is 1000 miles away, nowhere near. There's no reason to think this would spill over into Egypt. I consider it safer there than London.

I wouldn't have gone before.. never heard anything good about it..( restrictions). Definitely wouldn't go now.
We are even considering not going to Cyprus this year like we usually do because of the red sea.

OK I'll bite. You know that Cyprus is not in the Red Sea and is over 1,600 miles from Yemen. The Ukraine is closer. Syria is virtually next door.

Can I suggest, perhaps, Bridlington? Nothing ever happened in Bridlington...

I live in Cairo, & have done for a decade now.

Prefer Dahab to Sharm, but would head to either without safety worries (as are a bunch of my colleagues for half term).

It's hundreds of miles away from any conflict, & the Egyptian security forces really, really do not want an embarrassing tourist incident.

In fact they're if anything over zealous if you're driving from Cairo to Sharm/Dahab.

Honestly OP, I wouldn't worry about conflict in the region. Although personally, I would be mildly wary of the water leading up to Eid Al Adha in mid June, if you are worried about the sharks!
