That sinking feeling when you send a text to the wrong person ...

I'm embarrassed! I sent a text this afternoon, meant for my ds, to a colleague. Fortunately he seemed to see the funny side but even so:

Conversation was as follows:

Me: You left the dogs with the run of the sitting room, and surprise surprise, they pooed in there. How difficult is it to follow a simple instruction? Maybe if you were paying for everything you'd give a toss

Colleague: Many things are my fault, but on this occasion it wasn't me.

I'd say most people have made that mistake at least once. I definitely have, thankfully nothing rude or embarrassing but I did once text my manager instead of my partner asking her to pick up milk and some other essentials, easy mistake to make if you're not quite paying attention or their names are similar

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/01/2024 21:48

Ah well at least your message was inoffensive
And your colleague sounds like they’ve taken it with good grace 😂

Years ago when I was first married, DH forwarded me a really awful text from MIL, bragging about Golden BIL's wonderful job (better than DH's), gorgeous home (better than ours), flash car (we don't drive) and rounding off with "of course I shan't see him now until he's back from Tobago". I tried to reply telling him that her opinion didn't matter, BIL was a Tory twat and she could shove Tobago up her enormous arse. Except I actually sent it straight to MIL. I almost vomited when I realised what I'd done.

She replied as well.

Yeah I need more. What did mil say?

Not me but I was in a group chat where one woman was being aPITA. There was complaints about her in another chat. My friend started slating her but did it in the wrong chat! She then panicked and deleted the chat!

InstrumentsofTorture · 17/01/2024 22:03

Oh god, it's such a horrible feeling as you send the text on its way.

@sprigatito we need to know what your MIL said. I'm liking the "shove Tobago up her enormous arse" line, I must think of an occasion on which to use it!

If it's any consolation, I texted my boss about my problems with my huge boobs not fitting into dresses without looking matronly. It was meant for my friend, but boss had a similar name to the clothes shop and my brain clearly decided it needed a good fart at that point in time. He took it with a good sense of humour, thankfully!

Brilliant!! 😂😂😂

pavillion1 · 17/01/2024 22:15

i want to know the many things your colleague gets wrong at work 😆

ShoveTobagoUpYourEnormousArse · 17/01/2024 22:22

We had a WhatsApp group for work chat. One of my colleagues typed a very explicit message in it, it was not meant for work chat 😂

wendywoopywoo222 · 17/01/2024 22:36

I once sent a very very explicit message to my boss instead of the fella in the office that I was seeing outlining what I wanted to do to him and suggesting meeting in the warehouse. Blush

Sux2buthen · 17/01/2024 22:55

I sent a text moaning about a coworker directly to her. While she was sitting beside me Blush
I still feel bad and it was over ten years ago

CopperLion · 17/01/2024 22:58

THIS IS WHY I HAVE TWO PHONES.

Notamum12345577 · 17/01/2024 23:01

I also need more info 😁

WhamBamThankU · 17/01/2024 23:08

I once accidentally text my cousin a message meant for my (first) boyfriend at the time gushing about how much I loved him and how lucky I was. Didn't realise till my cousin replied that he was glad I was happy 😳 could've died.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 17/01/2024 23:13

I once text my boss’s boss - so proper top dog - asking if he could pick up “DC & C” on the way round for our “pizza and plonk” evening. His name was Rab, it was meant for my friend Rachel. Sadly we had to run to the corner shop ourselves for Diet Coke and crisps, and Rab didn’t even reply - quite rude when the message started “hey lovely”.

DontLeanOnTheKeyboard · 17/01/2024 23:17

II tended to text my husband about a particularly frazzling outing with the D. To a christening and ensuing reception, I was bluntly less that complimentary and happened to send it to the mum of the christened baby.

Chickoletta · 17/01/2024 23:17

My DS has the same name as an ex-boyfriend (not in tribute, it’s just a lovely name and also a family name on DH’s side!). On DS’s first day of secondary school, when he had just been given a phone for the first time, I sent him a text telling him how proud I was of him, that I was sure he was going to have a wonderful day, not to forget to buy himself a snack later if he got hungry and to remember how much I loved him.

Yep, sent it to a very amused ex-boyfriend. 😳
Luckily, we’ve remained on friendly terms and he knew my son’s name so worked out what had happened.

Wearegettingfedup · 17/01/2024 23:18

My daughter still reminds me about a text , accidentally sent her rather than my sister about how stroppy she was !! She replied, and now I am really stroppy 😂She was 15 at the time..probably the worst age for mistakes!!

DuckDuckNo · 17/01/2024 23:24

A classmate at uni was sleeping with the professor and when the professor sent a message to the class mailing list, she replied to it, replying accidentally to the whole list. The message was "Or should I s*ck you off after class like yesterday?"

iutiut · 17/01/2024 23:27

Mine is even more embarrassing. My DH works from home full time and often he is upstairs while I am downstairs during the day. We text and send emojos to each other quite often during the day.

One day I heard his fart and texted "stop farting I can hear you" (light hearted). However I bascially replied to a Dentist appointment reminder text message instead of him. I thought well no biggie, its probably an automated reminder, but I got a reply a few minutes later saying "sorry you must have texted the wrong person". I could imagine that must have made them laugh. I must admit that I was worried they might know I was the one sending the embarrassing message when I attended my appointment. Luckily they didnt show it on their face at least.

DoughnutA · 17/01/2024 23:32

this is why i like whatsapp, then you can retract the messages

Blanketpolicy · 17/01/2024 23:33

Dh received a very explicit message and familar message from a woman/unknown number. He was absolutely mortified and the reaction on his face was priceless. He threw his phone at me like it was a hot potato saying I have no idea who this is!!!

I checked the number against my contact list and it turned out it was one of his nieces from a side of the family we are no longer in contact with and he hasnt seen her since she was about 12ish, she would have been about 25 when she sent it, but he still visualised her as he did the last time he saw her, 12, so that horrified him even more! I thought it would be a lovely way to reconnect with family 🤣 he deleted and refused to reply!

mamma65432 · 17/01/2024 23:36

Why are your dogs pooping in the living room? why it is your DS's fault you haven't toilet trained your dogs? If your DS is younger than 14 than you are being unreasonable.

I’ve done this 😭😭😂 My god that sinking feeling! I actually said “Annoying Friend is doing my fucking head in.” And sent it in the chat she was in!! I didn’t even realise til other messages started popping off from my friends telling me what I’d done 🙈
