Subscription culture is a rip off.

Off sick and watching TV. We have Netflix, Amazon Prime and Dd pays for Disney+. We also have a tv licence.

Most things on Amazon need paying for despite the fact we already pay for Prime. Well the majority of stuff anyway.

It then takes me to something called Acorn, or Paramount. More interesting content, but of course they both need paying for, bearing in mind that these are promoted in Amazon Prime which we already pay for.

And these channels have lots of old BBC stuff that’s not available on the BBC despite having iplayer.

Is there one subscription channel where you can access everything? Because this is a rip off. You could be spending a fortune on this shit.

Agree, and you can never watch everything and way. I keep meaning to cancel them all and then just subscribe to one at a time - and cancel that one before moving to another. Don’t know if Now tv is a solution?

TheLogicalSong · 17/01/2024 18:55

Subscription culture exists because people like you are prepared to pay for subscriptions.

I had Amazon back when it was £40 year then they “offered” all films and stuff and it went up to £90. No option to say no thanks. It’s so annoying when 7/10 are to buy then they want £6.99 for something that’s almost out of copyright total rip off.

I do Netflix for a month then cancel for 3 that way perfectly able to watch all you want. I don’t know of its because of Hollywood strikes but hardly anything new for ages.

We've just cancelled now tv and I'm seriously thinking of cancelling Amazon prime. We've had it for yonks, and it was good value for ages, but the 'free' content is so much more limited, and the cost doesn't justify the free prime delivery anymore.

We do watch a lot of Netflix and Disney, and while less so Apple, we like the content and it's bundled in with our music and data storage subscriptions.

They all add up though.

Downinloco · 17/01/2024 19:06

We just have iplayer then as PP said, just pay for a month here and there occasionally. We just never had time to watch enough to make it worthwhile.

Prime does really annoy me.
So much they charge extra for on there! Not right
I'm watching Blacklist on it though

I thought this was going to be about influencers asking you to subscribe to special content for ‘just the price of a takeaway coffee a week’. I don’t drink coffee and there’s a shit load of other influencers not asking me to pay so….

Prime which we have anyway, and one Netflix. That’s one subscription. But l could get loads.

Barbie is 20 quid. It was cheaper to see it at the cinema and that’s saying something!

This is why I have a dodgy fire stick.
Every Chanel, even pay per view. All movies.
All platforms. £60 a year

Dilbertian · 17/01/2024 19:29

I'd like to just buy what I want to watch. Pay per view for something I will watch once, or buy outright for something I'll come back to. Subscriptions are pointless for me.

Do you shoplift as well?

newyearnewnothing · 17/01/2024 19:32

No. Just watch illegal tv

You said:

That's three subscriptions - just because you make use of Amazon Prime for things other than TV, that doesn't make it not a subscription.

However, even if you only had one subscription, that doesn't alter my point that subscription culture exists because people like you are paying for subscriptions.

If you want to end it, stop subscribing - to anything.
