Homework/study in Y7

I'm just wondering how much homework or self directed study your Y7 does after school?

My DD had Long Covid during Y5 and 6. Although the only subject she got behind on was Maths, she also wasn't really fulfilling her potential either. She's not highly academic but is bright and very creative. When I say homework/study I don't just mean academic subjects but creative ones too - they are both important, imo.

I want DD to do well at school and fulfill her potential. But equally I don't want to push her too hard and I want her to have a balance of school work and leisure time after school. Her school suggests they should be spending up to an hour per night on homework. But she only gets 2 or 3 pieces of homework per week. I'd like her to spend some time going over her Maths or practicing the languages she is studying. Should she be spending time studying like this?

Bumping as I’m curious about what people with Yr7 children might say …

Let her get back in the swing of learning and slowly build her stamina up. Go at the pace school are setting.

My year 7 DS has very little homework. The school has a policy that each subject is only allowed to set 15 minutes per night and not every teacher sets any. This does increase as they get older.

My Yr 7 DD has 2 x subjects per night of approx 20-30 mins each. Sometimes she gets a longer group project and currently revision for science tests. They are set homework for 6 nights per week so 12 subjects per week.
Thankfully so far she has been self motivated and copes with this well.
Private school though so this could differ from state schools.
She doesn't get home until 5.45 so after a break for tea she doesn't get time for self directed study on an evening but they have 2 x independent study sessions per week in the school timetable so this is when she can do any self directed stuff.

I found the Y7 homework amount fairly low, I think it picked up after Easter.

We asked her to regularly use her Spanish apps/websites to do vocabulary tests on top of homework. They also had access to a math one where they could go back over older topics and practice or check if they didn't understand something during lessons.
