What would your Mastermind specialist subjects be?

The rules: you need 3 (for the heat, semi-final and final) and they can’t be anything to do with your job. Can be as populist or erudite as you fancy!

It’s ok if they’ve been done before.

Mine would be:
Cabin Pressure (radio show)
Green Wing (TV show)
The life and works of Alan Rickman

  1. The Archers.
  2. The novels of Ann Cleeves. (I'd have to read the ones that aren't Vera, Shetland and the new Devon one first!)
  3. The films of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. I'd have to watch them all again, which would be a positive pleasure.

All for nothing if the General Knowledge questions mentioned too much about sport, hard science or popular entertainment, though!

Hoping that there won't be any sports questions in the General Knowledge rounds!

CuteOrangeElephant · 17/01/2024 09:43

I have actually been on Mastermind, did very well on my specialist subject (a little less well on general knowledge so I didn't go through). I won't get too specific, but I choose the life and works of an author I had recently read a biography on.

I think the key is picking a subject that is not too broad. The writer I picked didn't have too many books. I wouldn't fancy having to learn all about Agatha Christie's back catalogue! A better subject might be the Miss Marple books only for example.

Dd1’s would be the same, we often use phrases from the series. E.g. I often find things ‘extremely vexing! And I’m quite put out!

Would love to see someone on MM answer questions on Cabin Pressure, you should do it!

It’s been done once - have a search on YouTube!

I’m sure it would be allowed again but personally I’m not applying as I would choke in the general knowledge round…
