Which backpack does your DD take to secondary?

Just seen a bag in the sales that might do for Dd for secondary, it's a North Face Isabella, size 20l. Is this large enough for everyday use?

She has a duffle bag already for her sports kit which will be large enough to take her school stuff on a day she has sport/training.

DD has a nike backpack, 25l... and its a struggle somedays. She needs 5 or 6 A4 exercise books, 2 pencil cases (they have a long equipment list, she keeps every lesson stuff on one, and the occasionalstuff in the other one) , planner, lunch, waterbottle, umbrella, sanitary items...

Have you checked they don't have regulation one? Most of the secondaries here have a logo rucksack.

Vans backpack.

My daughter is in year 10 but has refused to use a backpack since the first term of year 7 as pretty much Mon of the other girls did at her school. They all use those daft tote bags when a backpack would be far more practical!

@Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky No regulations (or uniform).
@PuttingDownRoots oh, good to know she might need something larger.

DD had a Kanken backpack in 6th form. The quality has been so good she still uses it at 23.

SparePartz · 17/01/2024 07:26

@milkysmum DD (certainly at the moment) is more for practical over what everyone else has. It needs to be weatherproof as she'll have to e.g. wait for the bus in the rain or walk 25 mins.

@RampantIvy do you know what size?

DD's head banned tote bags so it's backpacks since Y7.

We went through a variety of bags but in the end the most important bit was proper straps. The locker situation was dire, so she had to carry a lot on a daily basis.

The only brand which survived 3 years so far is Jansport. It's not waterproof but DD has a large umbrella as she needs to walk 30 minutes each way and nothing was damaged.

Eldest DD has a kanken backpack which she has used since yr 7. She's yr 11 now. It's been good, but isn't massive. Girls at her school use a range of bags and plenty use a backpack.

Younger DD has a black backpack can't remember the brand but it's roomier than the kanken. She's yr 8.

My daughter has a adidas Unisex Tiro 23 League Backpack Sports backpack , compartment at the bottom can fit her PE kit in including trainers , and then bigger compartment can fit her coat, the other section fits in pencil case , planner and book.

She was taking two bags on PE days, and she struggled with that .

My son starts in September already got him the same bag , as fits everything nicely .

In year 7 DD had a standard rucksack fit all her stuff in. It was galaxy print (the in thing to have in 2020 😂)

In year 8 and 9 she had a fjall raven backpack, it fit all her books in, but she had to take a separate bag for PE and catering.

Year 10 she has a handbag (pictured above) she loves it. It's big enough to get everything in. It's more waterproof than any other bag she has had.

Let's see what year 11 brings

Both mine have backpacks from Lands End - good straps with the extra chest strap. DD1's is still in good nick after 4 years use.

fruitpastille · 17/01/2024 07:39

DD had a hype backpack in Y7. Just plain black though - no jazzy colours! It was pretty sturdy and big enough for her but she needed a separate bag for stuff like food tech. Her latest one is a random one from tkmaxx.

Dogsandbabies · 17/01/2024 07:46

Mine uses a large Finchley from ROKA. It fits all get books and she is happy with it.
