What can I do in the evenings?

I’m recently single, and my kids are with their dad half the time, so there are a few nights a week when I am home alone. I usually default to being on my phone in front of the TV, and then by the end of the night wish I had done something more productive.

I run sometimes, but don’t enjoy it much in this weather! I could go to the gym, but the council run one that I tend to go to which is pay as you go is a drive away and I can’t always be bothered to get in the car!

I haven’t got loads of money to spend, so although I’d love to do an evening class or something, realistically I can’t afford that at the moment.

I am going to try painting and have bought an acrylic paint set. I have loads of books but am not really inspired to read any of them! I don’t really enjoy cooking, although I really should try and remedy that!

Any ideas welcome!

You could do something sexy like buy a load of toys off love honey or write erotic fiction Grin

Ooh now there’s an idea. Not sure if I prefer the sound of the first or second of those options!

Great thread PP - lots of good ideas here! I’m in a similar boat as DH travels for work and I have plenty of solo nights once DS is in bed.

@Lieslies what is the music quiz you do? Would love a good pub quiz on the sofa!

@DrunkenElephant please may you share what YouTube Yoga you do please?

I do trauma informed/somatic yoga, Hannah Uiri is the instructor I follow.

If you don’t carry a lot of stress/trauma you may not find her right for you, but there are lots of other instructors to follow on there 😊

MeinKraft · 16/01/2024 22:17

@DietCokeAddict19 do both!! The world is your oyster!

ThePoshUns · 16/01/2024 22:22

Yoga
Crochet
Duolingo
Meet a friend for a walk

Being on the phone is such a waste of time but so many people do it.

Do a free, or cheap course on Coursera.

Read books.

Find a way to make extra money.

@HelpMeUnpickThis other good YouTube yoga instructors are:

Yoga with Adrienne
yoga with kassandra
boho beautiful. - they also do pilates
yoga with bird - I would call this very much beginner yoga She is easier than the others.
charlie follows - my current obsession.

Most do videos ranging from 10 minutes to 50 minutes so if you don’t have much time one day just choose a shorter one

If you don't have loads on money, you could earn some more on half the nights and spend it on the other nights! Maybe babysitting, or making something to sell on Etsy/selling things on Vinted.

I got a cinema pass. £16.99 a month and I can just go and immerse myself for a couple of hours whenever I fancy. I love it. Just got back from a film now!

How old are your dc? I would spend the time catching up on life/house stuff so I had better quality time with the kids (mine are small so maybe different if yours are older) Mainly be able to have a clean and tidy house, clean/declutter one room at a time. Batch cook. Organise birthdays/Christmas stuff well in advance. Also catch up with friends, even meeting a friend for a walk, costs nothing and getting a bit of exercise in at the same time. Painting is definitely a good one when you have the house to yourself if that needs done.
