Shorts over swimming costume

Does anyone do this ?

I do aqua fit a few times a week and although my costume is really well fitting and comfortable, I can't deal with the worry of an arse cheek or worse falling out

I don't want a leg suit because I'm fat and they aren't very forgiving but thought some slim fitting swim shorts over my costume might work

Does anyone do this ?

Seafancy have a rubbish return policy and they are shipped out from Florida.

Oh :(

Nobody cares but if you feel self conscious fair enough

the danger is you can highlight what your try to conceal

I wear men's swimming/ bermuda shorts (loose-ish fit,) over my cossie. I say 'mens' purely as they were usually labelled as such, though the style I'm sure is available in more feminine patterns etc. I'm shy about my scrawny thighs/ flat arse. Not like anyone gives a hoot what others look like during an aqua based fitness class. We all look very similar when in/under water and moving about!

I love these 3 piece swimsuits:

Like board shorts?

BobbleWobbleHat · 16/01/2024 20:08

I CBA to sort my wayward bikini line all the time so have worn men's shirts over a swim suit, or a boy leg suit for years. The men's shorts can be annoying with the netting inner but I just chop it out.

I like the look of the decathlon suits though

Anywherebuthere · 16/01/2024 20:08

Very good idea!
Lots of people wear shorts over swimming costumes at our local pool.

Point taken but the only thing I'm trying to conceal is a wayward flap or are cheek on display when I exit the pool and I find the public 'rearranging' awkward

I've seen this on many occasions, perhaps fear of leaking when on a period?

DwellingOnIt · 16/01/2024 21:41

I also have the boyleg suit from Sports Direct linked above; it’s one of the best things I’ve ever bought. I feel so much more confident wearing it. I’m also a size 18.

Needmoresleep · 16/01/2024 21:47

Look for "drag shorts" which are used by serious swimmers to increase resistance whilst training.

Just shorts with a tie waist. If OK for Rebecca Adlington or Sharron Davies, OK for you. 😀

Itsholly · 16/01/2024 21:49

What about these

Everyone wears legsuits at my swim session. Can’t remember last time I saw a traditional cozzie. There’s something really daft about them in retrospect! I suspect they were designed by a bloke.

SaturdayGiraffe · 16/01/2024 21:57

Boardshorts over cossie. It’s my skin and I can cover it if I choose.

SgtJuneAckland · 16/01/2024 22:00

I go to aquafit (deep and shallow) and one of the things I like about it is that it's mainly women of all ages and sizes, very non judgemental. I've lost more than 4 stone since I started and no one looks at me or treats me why differently than the first time I went. No one there is going to care about your arse and you're in the water anyway. I wouldn't wear shorts because I wouldn't want the extra layer, I do see some women in the boyleg costumes which would stop any wedgie type issues.

WagWoofWalkMeeoow · 16/01/2024 22:05

@Thekormachameleon yes I do & a tshirt too. I have large boobs and a fat tummy. I have health issues & im 55. I'm also very short. Due to my size, shape costume legs between crutch & stomach gape. And due to an accident one of my bicept muscles has collapsed and it's unsightly, plus all the scars & my boobs are no longer as perky as they once were. They keep my knees warm though 😉

Costume, mens bottoms & a loose top, makes me feel comfortable to swim.

@BIWI,you still have to get TO, the pool or sea etc.

DD wears men's trunks over her swimming costume. If it makes you more comfortable go for it. I'd be inclined to go for swim leggings though more than shorts. Have a look at 'modesty' swimwear and I'm sure you'll find something appropriate

I like the looseness of men's trunks (and they're available in loads of designs & colours.

I also have some short board shorts. Totally recommend them, they’re very lightweight and give you peace of mind. I felt particularly smug about them in the CentreParcs pools & slides.
These ones from Decathlon: OLAIAN Tana Women's Boardshorts - Black £14.99

I am way way over thinking this and my excuse is I'm pregnant and hormonal.

But why feel smug? I strongly considered wearing shorts in the pool at CP last month, I have a nasty scar at the top of my leg which is still healing. Also pregnant and bigger than normal.

I have worn shorts in the past sometime but decided not to bother in the end.

Were you smuggly looking at me (women like me) because you were so clever to wear shorts. I really didn't think anyone would care in the end.

idontlikealdi · 16/01/2024 22:24

I always think anyone wearing shorts or a swim dress etc is uncomfortable and it draws attention. Wear the swimsuit and be done with it.

I'm fat, swim a lot and can't be doing with extra fabric flapping about.

DonnasShrugaleros · 16/01/2024 22:25

A decent swimsuit should do the job. I swim a lot and have noticed more women wearing regular clothes in the pool. I get that people have hang ups (I have them too) but I really question the hygiene of it.

Just to add, everyone's probably focussing on themselves rather than looking at what others are wearing. Just contradicted myself haven't I!

dlago · 16/01/2024 22:47

I swim regularly and have got a tankini that has matching shorts from speedo.

Our local council pool has some swim suits for sale at the entrance including modest swimsuits (full length with hijab).

I love the way it encourages swimming for those who wouldn't feel comfortable swimming in more revealing suits.

Saschka · 16/01/2024 22:51

I do in sunny weather, because I’m ginger and do a lot of long distance swimming, so floating bum-upwards for prolonged periods, and frankly the benefits of avoiding a sunburnt arse far outweigh the embarrassment of ridiculous swimwear.

I usually wear board shorts and a long sleeved high-necked rash vest, but swim leggings or thin cycle shorts would also work.
