Mosquitos in Devon in January?!

I’ve been panicking a bit about possibly having bedbugs or fleas, as I’ve been getting bitten every so often at home. This morning when I let the dog out, I found a mosquito on the inside of the back door - in SW England in January, it’s -2C outside! Image attached (zoomed in, it wasn’t as big as it looks in the picture).

How common is it to have mosquitos in the house in winter? The bites had been really worrying me, but I’ve never found any evidence of bedbugs or fleas. I’ve found things that looked like this mosquito in the bedroom and bathroom as well over the past couple of weeks, but this is my first photographic evidence.

Is this what’s biting us? And why is it here in the winter?

Yes, here too in Yorkshire.

I have found several in the house and walked through a cloud of them in the woods last week.

i am assuming that we just haven’t had enough cold weather to kill them off this winter.

We’ve got them on some outbuildings still, midlands area.

Thank you for your replies!

I’ve just hoovered everywhere and there’s no signs of bedbugs on the mattresses (I watched a video on the Rentakil website of a bedbug pooing 🤢🤢 but I’m glad I did, because it’s obvious from that that we don’t have any!)

Looks like it must be the mosquito(es) that is/are the bitey culprit!

It’s not uncommon. We’re also in Devon. Like every other sort of bug (and mice and rats) they come inside for the warmth. Until recently we’ve had an unusually warm wet winter.
