Luckily I've only had a handful of these in course of life( mid 70 yr old).I don't feel well and have nagging pain and constant urge to go to loo. No burning or stinging.
Should I just keep chugging liquids or try and speak to GP/nurse? I don't think it's getting worse.

My gp is highly responsive to e-consults - I’d do one of those this morning and wouldn’t be surprised to have a prescription issued to my pharmacy same day (the record is 5 mins). I don’t get UTIs very often any more thanks to ovestin, but I know if they don’t resolve by themselves within 48 hours they aren’t going to.

EverleighMay · 16/01/2024 08:54

Assuming you are in UK, Try your Pharmacist, they can usually help with UTI's

Sodndashitall · 16/01/2024 08:59

Pharmacies can now do the test and sort out treatment for antibiotics. In fact they can't do it if it's really bad and there's blood in urine so you're better off going sooner rather than later !

AnnaMagnani · 16/01/2024 09:05

Antibiotics, you can't wait these out.

And later have a look at vaginal atrophy - it the major cause of UTI in post-menopausal women. Get some vaginal oestrogen and your UTIs will be a thing of the past.

I second this.

RampantIvy · 16/01/2024 09:08

Untreated UTIs can turn nasty. I agree that this needs more than just drinking loads.

inappropriateportioncontrol · 16/01/2024 09:20

Just tried Boots and got below:think I'll try again and lie.
Based on your age, you're not suitable for our online service. Please speak with a local GP or clinic

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 16/01/2024 09:23

Please don’t leave it. You really don’t want to end up with a serious kidney infection.

Snippit · 16/01/2024 09:48

Definitely contact your G.P. I’m now under urology for redcurrant UTI’s. I had one last January that like you I kept on drinking more fluids, it tracked up into my kidneys and was SO painful, I had a holiday booked and was on the verge of cancelling it, I was bed ridden with it.

The dip test they do is called the Kass test and it doesn’t pick up every UTI, the gold standard is to have a lab test it.

Pollywoddles · 16/01/2024 09:51

Why won’t you go to your GP? I’m not being rude but UTIs in patients your age can lead to altered mental status.

I wouldn’t mess with this, get seen.

Just drop a sample into the doctor surgery. I did this last week (after a couple of days of mithering like you) and had the test done and antibiotics sent to the chemist that afternoon (nobody from the doctors told me and their phone line was closed due to staff shortages when I rang them myself but that's another story!)

mindutopia · 16/01/2024 10:10

Absolutely see your GP and get on antibiotics. Even in my 20s, I wouldn’t leave a UTI more than 24 hours. They can get really nasty.

inappropriateportioncontrol · 16/01/2024 10:12

Thank you everyone. My surgery had reached it's e consult capacity at ,8.30 after opening at ,8
I had followed the links on surgery site and it suggested going to a pharmacy.
I was put off going further with them
And I don't feel well and am a 15 min. walk from surgery and my knee is playing up .
However... With you good ladies support I phoned and am now sitting in waiting room 😀

Good for you, a stitch in time and all that

LordyMe · 16/01/2024 10:21

I agree with everyone else. I've had lots of uti and my doctor always gets back to me the same day, we have a minute long conversation and I get my prescription. Easy.

LordyMe · 16/01/2024 10:22

Opp sorry I wrote my post before your update. Glad you are getting it sorted

inappropriateportioncontrol · 16/01/2024 10:39

Thank you , you've all been very helpful. Been seen , sample provided prescription given
Hope the pharmacy will have it when I get there
@MeinKraft I did think of doing that but was feeling too crap to get up.
Feeling a bit better now .

inappropriateportioncontrol · 16/01/2024 10:51

@Pollywoddles you're right . My thinking was that I could do the Boots thing online and then catch the bus door to door to collect . Which seemed more manageable than tackling and walking to surgery. Tiny violin emoji.

I hope you feel better soon Flowers
